Our adult son was scheduled for brain surgery at Barrow Neurosurgical Associates, part of St. Joe's Hospital. We were a little unsure of staying at the Hampton, which is so close to St. Joe's, it's almost connected. It's actually on hospital grounds. The reviews in Trip Advisor were mixed. What we found was a very nice, clean, room with a decent-sized bath, desk and comfy chair, 27" TV with a fairly good array of free channels. The beds are super comfy and the all-cotton puffy bedding is even better. Pillows are super soft. A full breakfast is available, free of charge, including fresh fruit salad, make-your-own waffles, egg omelets, meat which varies day by day, cereals, yogurt, various breads, bagels, etc., coffees, teas and juices. The staff is very courteous and the location is absolutely perfect if you have to go back and forth to the hospital. I'm a very light sleeper and had no trouble getting to sleep, because the room was quiet. There are enough restaurants within a short walk to survive -- Italian, Mexican, Thai and a Deli. There's also an egg place with breakfast, lunch and dinner plus a really nice smoothie place and a coffee shop. Can't go wrong with this hotel, and the prices were good too for the proximity to the hospital.

Stayed overnight on a business trip, top floor. The hall and room had that sour, musty smell from cigarettes and beer. Had to keep the window open on a cold night. Carpet was worn; bathroom shabby. Helicopters landed and took off all night from the hospital next door. Attention Hilton: this one needs a makeover, soon!

Dear former guest,

We want to thank you for your recent comments regarding the Hampton Inn Phoenix Midtown. We apologize for the problems associated with your stay. Even though we are a 100% smoke free hotel, there are occasions when guests still smoke in the room. We do deodorize the rooms after they have been smoked in, but sometimes the smoke smell comes back after the deodorizer fades and then we have to re-apply the deodorizer.

We are located next to a major hospital and we will have an occasional helicopter due to an emergency.

Again, we thank you for your comments and your feedback is appreciated.

Cordially,

Eric mackler

We stayed at this hotel because my fiancee could use his Hilton points. The hotel was fine. The room was nice but a little dark in terms of the color scheme. I've never been to Phoenix before, but even thought the location is listed as downtown, I felt like we were no where near downtown. We were surrounded by the hospital. And driving around on a Saturday night, we didn't encounter much of anything that was open at 8:30pm. They had a decent breakfast in the morning and free coffee/tea in the lobby (a Hampton Inn standard). The staff was OK. Nothing really impressive across the board. Overall, I would only recommend this hotel for overnight stay or business travel. Because there isn't much to say good or bad about his hotel.

thank you for your comments. we are known as the hampton inn phoenix midtown, near the downtown area. we are 2.5 miles north of downtown phoenix, adjacent to st. josephs hospital.

our front desk offers a map of local restauarants upon request. there are several restaurants open on saturdays within a five mile radius of the hotel.

our breakfast is even better now since we added make your own waffles and a variety of hot items as well.

we appreciate your comments and hope to see you again.

cordially,

eric

I agree with the reviews. Clean, next to Hospital, central location. Had a hearty breakfast of the usual 'junk' food breakfast as most other hotels, but a little better quality. The room was clean, the pool was big enough to soak a person or two. If you need a place to crash after running around all day, I recommend this place. I would return here and not stay at any other 2 star dive.

My son and I stayed here during Super Bowl weekend. Even during this weekend, the hotel was very quiet. A few helicopters landed on roof of the hospital during our stay, but it was not a disruption. Location is a little off the beaten path, but was a good jumping off point. Breakfast was good and the room was a typical Hampton room - clean and spacious. For $143 a night in Phoenix during the Super Bowl, it was a great value.
