3 of 5 bubbles Reviewed May 31, 2012

Just returned home from 3 day/night stay @ Hampton Inn Phx/Midtown...Great location as you are close to any and everything...Room was clean..bed was comfortable..Had fridge and microwave as well..Aircon (Rm 426) was as loud as a Diesel engine of a F350 truck..Was prepared with ear plugs tho...Hotel is just across the street from St. Joe's hospital so at least 2x a night you will hear the comings and goings of the air evac helicopter..Made reservations on line and quoted @ $89 per night for 1 King Bed Non Smoking....Upon waking up last day i reviewed bill (that was slid under door) and saw that they charged me $99 per night....Went downstairs to talk to front desk clerk...When I told her the problem, she advised me that the State Rate was $99 for that room...I advised her that I did not reserve the room at State Rate and had copy of reservation that I had printed prior to my arrival..She then stated that she would change it since I had proof..Weeeeeeeeeeell im thinking that some 1 during my stay (mayb the gal who checked me in) saw that my credit card was a State Corporate card and made the switch based on the card itself..But the reservation clearly shows $89...Upon making the reservation last month I saw that the State rate was more expensive than regular rate so i made reservation on regular rate ($89)...Now if I hadn't looked and just left today, im sure I would have had a problem explaining this over the phone..

Hello,

We want to thank you for your positive comments regarding the Hampton Inn and want to apologize for the inconveniences you experienced during your stay. First of all, we will follow up on the loud A/C unit in your room. We are next to St. Joseph's Hospital and sometimes the air-evac helicoptors take off and land.

We looked in to your reservation history and found that you did reserve the room at $89 and not $99 which was the government per diem rate. We go through each guests company name and saw you were with a Government agency. What happened was when we changed your local tracking to the GVT. code (which is what we do to track and produce history statistics) , the computer asked the front desk clerk if they want to change the rate to $99 or keep the original rate of $89. The clerk obviously hit the wrong button an we apologize for this. We just want you to know that in no way are we trying to over charge you and even if you did not notice it and called me, we would of found the same reservation history and corrected it for you.

Again, thank you for your comments and we hope to have you as our guest in the near future.

Cordially,

Eric Mackler

Much enjoyed staying here. Clean, friendly, grade A Hampton experience! Though I had a room near the elevator it certainly wasn't a bother. It's not too far from U.S. Airways Center or Comerica Theater! I visit Phoenix when there's concerts in town and find this location PERFECT!

Dear MOCfun,

We want to thank you for your recent positive comments regarding the Hampton Inn Phoenix Midtown. We love it when our guests are happy with their stay here. We were recently renovated the hotel, so everything is fresh and new in our hotel. There is a lot of good entertainment that comes to Phoenix as well as sporting events. Our guests appreciate being able to use the light rail system as well which is econmical and only a ten minute ride to downtown.

Thank you again for your comments and we hope to see you on your next "fun trip" soon.

All-in-all an nice place in Phoenix. But we had reserved and had the confirmation for a room with a king bed. They gave us a queen sized bed and when we called down to get the problem corrected, had to argue with the female clerk that A. It wasn't a king and B. We had reserved and wanted a king. After about a 7-8 minute "discussion" back and forth and at my absolute insistence, we were finally given a king room.

We had had a similar experience at the Flagstaff Hampton Inn so I wasn't about to settle for anything less than reserved.

Stayed here for two nights on a stop over in Phoenix, good central location. Staff was fantastic, Ofilia was the desk clerk on duty and checked us in early. Was very helpful with dinner recommendations, and generally a very nice young lady. Property is very clean and quiet. Breakfast is on par with other Hamptons as are the rest of the amenities. Overall we will stay here again. Nicely done.

I you need to visit someone in St. Joseph's Hospital, or take advantage of the top rated Barrow Neurological Clinic, it's the only place to stay--for convenience' sake. The Hampton Inn Midtown (Downtown Area) is close to the Metro and to informal restaurants. . This location is nestled so well in the medical complex, you don't have to use your car unless you want to get downtown. I appreciated the fact that when I had to see a doctor I could easily walk to her or his office without worry about finding the location or setting out for a meal. Hampton Inn has complete breakfast offered, and the Muhammad Ali Hospital will in fact pick you up to make sure you get to the office you need. It meets all one's needs, especialky for someone new to Phoenix.

Room Tip: I'd try to get a room away from the elevators. They tend to put single travelers there. Half t...

We take special care of our hospital guests because we are aware that you have many things going on at the hospital and that is why our goal is to make you as comfortable at the hotel as possible.

We hope to see you again soon on your next visit to the Phoenix area, hopefully on a leisure visit.

The hotel is not too far from the airport (about 6 miles) but not so close that you hear the airplanes. Not knowing Phoenix we wanted something that was in the middle of the city and this worked for us. It was clean. It is near a shopping centre although we didn't go there. The free breakfast was average, but the sitting area was a little nicer than most hotels of this type. The hotel was full but was quiet since it's not in a tourist area. We heard a couple of helicopters at the hospital next door but they were quick and didn't disturb us. The real test came when I accidentally left some articles behind upon checkout. The staff tried to be helpful, but internal lack of communication made the situation complicated. However, the manager, Chuck, resolved the issue quickly and successfully within minutes. Overall our experience was good.

My husband and I stayed at this hotel for the night we arrived at Phoenix, and the night before leaving. The rooms were clean, but it seems like the structure itself is somewhat old, and we could hear the floor noise from the people in the room above, and bathroom noises. We also noticed that the toilet kept flushing by itself, and the bathroom sink drained very slowly. It did not bother us much, though. Breakfast was ready on time, and staff was friendly. Despite being next to a large hospital, it was rather quiet and we did not hear much outside noise although we slept with windows half open. We would definitely consider staying here again.
