With a 5 yr old, we enjoyed an afternoon of racing on St Patrick's Day, a $1 day event. First thing one sees is the colorful landscaping - beds of flowers, & tropicals recovering from the frost. It was fairly crowded, but we had little trouble watching horses in the paddock or hanging on the rail as the horses raced past, the best parts. People were happily cheering on their favorites. Even got to watch a turf race. The little one said "I love to watch the horses RUN!"
Advice - 1. If it's a special event, clubhouse price is charged at the West gate; if you want lower prices, head for the main North gate. 2.Wear your sunscreen. Grandstand seats are in full sun; if you prefer shade, buy a clubhouse ticket.
