“Arguably, the best restaurant in Greater Phoenix”
5 of 5 bubbles Reviewed June 4, 2013

You will have to search for it....you may have to wait for a seat...but the rewards will be great! This is arguably, the best restaurant in the Greater Phoenix area. Only so because the owner has two more outstanding eateries a half mile up the street. While both are excellent, I can't give up Dick's Hideaway. It is a very cozy little hole-in-the-wall that has bar seating for around a dozen. Add a few small tables behind and a private room that opens to general seating when not booked for an event.

On any given night you'll have the option of five fresh fish, all offered like you have never seen before. The steaks are awesome. The bacon-wrapped shrimp...to die for! How about New Mexico sausages and a potato stuffed green chili? Fish tacos anyone??? Breakfast is amazing. Try a spicy Bloody Mary with a sidecar beer. It will go great with eggs on your Green Chili Meatloaf.........

The food is outstanding, but you couldn't have it without the competent and friendly staff.
This is the cream of the crop, every one a consumate professional. Most of them have been staffers for years.

Bottom line.......breakfast, lunch, dinner or late night: this is THE place!

“Awesome Mexican Food (for Breakfast!)”
5 of 5 bubbles Reviewed May 29, 2013

We stopped in before our flight out of PHX. It is a hard to find place that a friend told me about. There is no sign on the door or building. It is right next to a grocery store with wood framed, glass door that says "Unattended children will be given espresso and a free kitten".

It is a very small location with a bar and some high top tables. Upon entering, the smells are amazing, decor awesome, signs humorous, and music great.

I had the Carne Adovada & Eggs for breakfast. The carne was so yummy. The beans great. Tortilla fresh. Even the potatoes were seasoned great.

A great experience, great service, and great food. Highly recommend!

“They don't deserve customers”
1 of 5 bubbles Reviewed May 26, 2013

We heard this place was good, but hard to find. Its incredibly hard to find. I was standing right in front of it and still didn't know it was there. After entering and trying to find something suitable for our kids to eat (very very spicy food), it's clear they don't want to be found. The waitor/bartender was less than helpful - like we were putting him out asking questions about the food. We asked for some alterations (to prepare a shrimp dish without the shrimp) and were told if we wanted something different, we should order something different. It's incredibly small and dark. We left and went someplace else. The server was an unhelpful, arrogant jerk.

“definition of hole in the wall”
5 of 5 bubbles Reviewed April 14, 2013

When the only sign is "additional parking in the rear" you found it! One of the best breakfasts(new mexico style) I've ever had. everyone loved it even the wusses who just had pancakes. lots of food and excellent service. You get what you pay for. only real recommendation other than GO is go during the week they have people out the door on weekends. So -next to the harware store-under the cats claw vines-open door. Good luck!

“Some like it hot!”
4 of 5 bubbles Reviewed March 25, 2013

And we do! We found it by word of mouth - I don't think we would have found it any other way ... there's no sign - just a big wooden door with a small window. Inside it's small but lively. You may not always get a seat but if you do it's worth it. This place focuses on New Mexican cuisine and they really do it right. Spicy and flavorful. We like sitting at the bar or at the high tops in the bar area - it's fun to watch the bartenders and cooks at work. They also pour a mean drink.
