“beautiful mass”
5 of 5 bubbles Reviewed October 21, 2013

the basilica is beautiful and run by Friars. Mass is wonderful and open to all. its a full mass lasting more than one hour so don't be in a rush. most of the mass is sung. we were so impressed with how they opened the mass to the hearing challenged. this is a good "do to" which gets in your sunday mass and some sightseeing at the same time.

“Great Place for Sunday Mass”
5 of 5 bubbles Reviewed October 20, 2013

St. Mary's Basilica in downtown Phoenix was built in 1912. It is staffed by Franciscan Friars. The church is an excellent example of Spanish church architecture. The stained glass windows are many and beautiful. A great place to attend Sunday Mass.

“A religious icon and a must see in Phoenix”
5 of 5 bubbles Reviewed October 18, 2013

Although St. Mary's has been around since the early 1900's, it didn't become a Basilica until 1985. when Holiness Pope John Paul II elevated the status of St. Mary's to this deserved level. This was followed by a papal visit in 1987. The Basilica itself is beautiful, inviting and maintained in pristine condition, and the grounds are worthy of a visit in their own right.

If you are Catholic, a visit to St. Mary's Basilica is an absolute must. If not, it's still very worthy of a visit simply for the history and beauty you'll find.

“Hiddenaway Basilica-worth visiting”
4 of 5 bubbles Reviewed October 4, 2013

Sitting between the office blocks, Convention centres and the University of Southern Arizona Campus, this basilica is well worth a visit to see the stained glass windows and take in the peace and quiet away from the Arizona sun. It is a short walk from the Metro Light Rail station on Washington/Central down Munroe St. If you carry on down the street (a short walk away) is the Heritage Square and some 19th/early 20th Century houses - well worth including in your downtown tour.

“Beautiful Stained Glass Windows”
5 of 5 bubbles Reviewed September 12, 2013

I had the opportunity to attend Mass at St. Mary's Basilica while in Phoenix. This is the oldest Catholic church in the area. I went to the Vigil Mass and not only was the church itself beautiful, but the choir was wonderful. Unlike many excellent choirs, it was possible to sing along and that enhanced my ability to enter more fully into the Mass. What do they say? Singing is like praying twice?
