“Very Good Food”
Reviewed July 7, 2014

I had the grilled chicken tacos and I substituted whole black and pinto beans for the rice and refried beans which made it a healthy mexican meal. Great margarita.

“Overpriced Tourist Trap”
Reviewed July 6, 2014

We resorted to Mi Amigo's after struggling to find authentic Mexican food elsewhere in downtown Phoenix. We were sorely disappointed by the prices and portions of this restaurant. The ingredients were fresh and service was good, but we paid too much for food that was only average.

“Standard fare but excellent service”
Reviewed June 30, 2014

We walked in, unannounced with a party of 30. They rallied quickly and got us seated. Our server was excellent and brought out chips, salsa and drinks quickly. She didn't complain when we asked for 12 different checks and the food came out promptly and with no mistakes. Amazing. Food was pretty good. I'm not a huge Mexican food fan so the others who really enjoy Mexican food thought it was good. Probably a solid bet for food too.

“Good Food!”
Reviewed June 17, 2014

We walked across the street from our hotel to the Arizona Center and ate at Mi Amigo's. The Spicy Bean Dip is deceptive. Really subtle at first, then as it cools it got spicier. Jalapeño juice in it, maybe? But it was good. We ordered the Combo Fajitas with beef, chicken and shrimp. You could cut the meat with a fork it was so tender and the shrimp were perfectly cooked. Guacamole, rice, refried beans were all good. The homemade flour tortillas were Awesome! Definitely would recommend this restaurant, and it's only a block and a half from the convention center. Very convenient.

“Good Mexican food in downtown Phoenix”
Reviewed June 7, 2014

We recently were asked by some foreign visitors on the street in downtown Phoenix where there was a good real Mexican restaurant within walking distance. Although there are some good restaurants in the area, and a lot of great Mexican restaurants all over Arizona, we realized we didn't know of one. We'd noticed Mi Amigo's, in Arizona Center, but had never eaten there. So we tried it for lunch the next time we were downtown. Although I wouldn't rate it as great, as Arizona Mexican food goes, it is very good, and I would certainly recommend it.

To start with, the chips are on the thin variety, fresh and crisp, although a bit greasy, and the salsa is a tasty medium-spicy red. The menu has the standards, but we ordered a spinach enchilada platter and a dinner salad with chicken (admittedly not the best way to test a true Mexican restaurant), and both were good. The enchiladas were prepared well, with the spinach very fresh, and came with a reasonable-sized portion of rice and beans. The salad was a good size for a light meal, and the chicken was spiced well (a recurring theme for the few things we tried).

We were there on a weekend, so the place was only about a quarter full, but service was good, quick but not pushy.

After one visit, I'm convinced it's at least a "4", and it might be better than that. We'll try it again.
