Saw reviews for the Gourmet House of Honk Kong and decided to give it a try. It is in deed a little rough on the outside and definitely not a highly decorated establishment on the inside but it is clean and the food is very good. We started with the crab puffs which back home, we know them as crab rangoon. The outside wonton skin was slightly overdone around the edges but not to the point that we didn't like them. The filling was very good with a nice mixture of cream cheese and crab. We then had the Sweet and Sour Combo and the Gourmet House Plate with Garlic Sauce both from the House Specialties section of the menu. The Sweet and Sour Combo had fried shrimp, chicken, pork and beef, carrots, onions and green peppers with a sweet and sour sauce. Although the menu said the meats were were deep fried we were pleasantly surprised that they were lightly dusted with flour and fried so the meat had a crispy crunch and not batter fried like fish and chips. The Gourmet House Plate had shrimp, scallops, chicken & pork, snow pea pods, mushrooms, baby corn carrots and celery cooked with a dark garlic sauce. We were a little surprised that the sauce appeared more white than dark but the taste was exceptional. Both dishes came with white rice but you could get fried rice for a small up charge. I had the white rice and my wife had the fried rice. The fried rice was just ok, nothing exceptional but the main courses were very good. As is typical in many Chinese restaurants we received fortune cookies with our bill. The prices are very reasonable and the staff very friendly. The menu is very extensive and I'm sorry we didn't have a larger group so we could try some other dishes. We would definitely recommend this restaurant and personally will seek it out when we return to Phoenix.

This little place has been around for ever. The outside is nothing to admire, but the food is delicious and inexpensive. Try the teriyaki fish and corn soup. The special wall menu written entirely in Chinese tells you where that community goes when it wants to eat.

Authentic Chinese cooking and budget lunch menu. Decor is not nice but the home cooking is superb. Lunch is around $10.

Best budget lunch menu! Sesame Chicken is my favorite. Don't judge on atmosphere or exterior appearance.

Go through the front door and you find yourself in the kitchen! Lengthy new menu with prices about $8-11 per entree. Service was excellent, even when we lingered for an hour after the meal, visiting. Food came out quickly, portions average size, ingredients looked and tasted fresh. We ordered "deep fried fish", that had black mushrooms, onions and slivers of pork, in a brown gravy. Extraordinary taste and smell!! Also had Sechuan Shrimp, a spicy dish containg many medium sized shrimp, flavorful, mildly spicy, both served with rice. They offered a special dessert, mango with sticky rice, but we passed, as we were full. They close at 9pm.
