We try to eat at The Stockyards restaurant everytime we are in Phoenix. It is near our hotel at Hampton Inn North and the hotel shuttle can take you there in 10 minutes. The ambiance of The Stockyards has the feel of the old West. Booths are named after famous people who ate at the booth repeating times. We especially enjoyed being at the John Wayne booth on our first experience. The steak is the specialty but everything we have tried is great and cooked to perfection. The meal is plentiful and the price is not too expensive. The bread is delicious that is served warm before the meal. The waiters are attentive and aim to please. If you want to mix and match food items such as rice, vegetables or potato, our waiter said "if it is in the restaurant then you can have it"! We especially like Bob who has waited on us twice. The manager is very friendly too.

Since we are natives of this fair city and wanted others to have the nostalgic experience of the cattle industry our choice for this years annual Anniversary celebration had to be the landmark Stockyards.
The following was the choice of fare for the evening dining:
1 serving of Portabello Mushroom Stack with Goat Cheese, Tomato and Roasted Red Pepper for appetizer. We shared around the table, all but one savored it's tender meat and flavors, it was delicious.
1 Had the Double Thick Stuffed Pork Rib Chop with Apple Cranberry Chutney Cornbread dressing. This was a huge portion and the little lady who ordered it ate every morsel and said it was wonderful.
1 Had the Trout with Bourbon Pecan Butter Sauce and said it was probably the best he had ever had.
1 Had the Top Sirloin Baseball cut and raved about it's flavor and texture and said it was undoubtably the best he has had in years and how it was just as it tasted 40+ years ago.
2 Had the Salmon with Citrus Chili Glaze and it was divine.
Wine was a Merlot and smooth. Dessert was over the top brownie and creme' brule'
Sides were mashed potatoes, baked potatoes, rice pilaf and garlicked green beans and carrots, so wonderful and prepared perfect, soft, smooth, al dente'. yummy
Overall the meal was fantastic, prepared to perfection, all moist, juicy and flavorful in it's own right.
We were greeted by a hostess who smiled, asked if we were so and so, even though we had not said who we were. She knew though obviously that 6 had arrived and they were ready to seat us. The wait staff were the best. Justine was our waitress and had impeccable manners and was gracious the entire evening. The other wait staff were all nearly unnoticable as they met each of our needs without asking. They silently poured, served and cleaned almost in silence. Speaking of silence it was wonderful not having noisy music in the background but only subtle conversation from the other guests. And the owner Gary Lasko made an appearance to introduce himself, welcome us to his establishment, wish us all a Happy Anniversary and thank us for joining them that evening. After dinner when we walked into the bar area to peek at the beautifully carved bar Gary once again took the time to tell us about the history of the saloon, a nice touch that made us feel very welcome. The cute hostess even offered to take photos of us in front of the fireplace and the Christmas tree, how nice was that? This was an incredible experience with outstanding tasting food, ambience and workers. We are planning our next night out to include family and new friends. Don't pass this one up you won't be sorry.

We really enjoyed this place the moment we stepped inside and were greeted. The decor was charming and cozy. The service was polite, but the food was excellent. The top sirlion and prime rib were delicious.Wine selection could be better though, also, we tried their "Fried Calf" appetiser, which of coarse was interesting.
All in all, I would dine here again and introduce this place to any visitors to Phoenix for a good Steakhouse.
