“A good end to our holiday”
Reviewed October 30, 2012

We were recommended to eat here at the B&B we stayed in near by. After 4 weeks of not enjoying American food very much, it was a delight to eat in a restaurant with tables beautifully set with white table linen & lots of cutlery. The food was served correctly & not in inedible quantities. Service was friendly but not over familiar.
A pleasant atmosphere as well. Many of the customers seemed to be regulars. It was not expensive either.
Clearly, it was not exactly Italian - we weren't after all in Italy - but it was close enough.
We did have some good meals in the USA but not many & usually in restaurants which were European in style like this one. I didn't want to go home (the next day) remembering yet another inedible meal & Christo's meant we ended on a high note.

Every time we go to Scottsdale a dinner at Christo's is a must, food and service are great. We have been dining there for years and the food just keeps getting better.

“It's not Italian, it's a better quality Olive Garden”
Reviewed October 10, 2012

We recently stayed in a B&B near this restaurant. The owners of the B&B raved about it, so we went. Having been to Italy over 15 times in the last decade, I know what Italian food is. It's not this. We had a perfectly serviceable cocktail to start. Then came the dinner. Totally uninspiring. Red sauce or white sauce over pretty much the standard fair - veal parma, pastas, shrimp etc. The meal started with a homemade but boring minestrone, followed by a salad-out-of-the-bag. Absolutely no imagination. I had a half-duck that was well done (but not really italian), while my wife had ravioli that were standard fair, but did not enthuse.

The decor is similar to the food - one of the typical American strip mall restaurants that you see on TV shows like Kitchen Nightmares with the ubiquitous restaurant makeover artist, Gordon Ramsay. No ambiance at all. The clientele sort-of reflected the decor, too. I suspect that this is the reason for their menu - the people who frequent the restaurant think that this is what Italian cooking should be, and the chef caters to this "palate" (one would say this is a sensible business strategy).

On the plus side, the waiter who served us was very good - either was part of the family that owns the place, or should be working in a better restaurant than this!

So, if you go in expecting true, innovative and inspiring Italian cuisine, you'll be disappointed. If you want Ameritalian dining, it's fine.
