“Fresh, imaginative food in a modern setting”
Reviewed November 21, 2012

Tarbell's has a great chef, good food, and irresistible desserts. The decor is very modern, with a big splashy painting on the wall I was looking at. I had a terrific bib lettuce salad, followed by... can't remember what it was called (tarbell cut?), but it was very much like pot roast. Delicious and fork tender. They had other very good cuts of beef, as well a fresh seafood. For dessert, the four of us split an order of profiteroles and an order of their chocolate mousse. Yummy. The atmosphere was fairly quiet. The only thing that surprised me was the price of a glass of Irish whiskey - we did not ask, but at $18, was the most expensive glass of Bushmill's we have had in a restaurant. Our fault for not checking first.

“Did not disappoint”
Reviewed October 28, 2012

We thought we'd try a new place and we found it to be a good choice! Great service from Michael Shane or Shane Michael (we aren't sure). We made a reservation on opentable.com and were seated right away. We ordered a bottle of Nebbilio red wine. I had the beet salad, my husband the Yellow tail appetizer. He ordered the pepper steak (really good, but really big as well) and I had the Tar's scotch beef (aka grandmas pot roast with mashed potatoes) The desserts were also great big portions- 2 ice cream , cream puffs and 3 big scoops of sorbet flavors (strawberry, lemon & raspberry). The only bad thing would be that it is very open, not very romantic in that sense but the food was truly wonderful.

“Very disappointing”
Reviewed October 26, 2012

After hearing good reviews we went for a birthday dinner. All four of us rated our food as average or below. The caesar salad was tasteless. The spaghetti with two giant unattractive meatballs was hard to eat and to look at. To finish things off, the ladies restroom smelled as if there had been a sewage back-up.

“One of the best in Phoenix metro”
Reviewed October 21, 2012

I live in the Phoenix area and this is one of my favorites so far. The chickpeas are great as is the kale salad. My boyfriend really liked his beet salad too. Cuisine is creative but not pretentious or sacrificing flavor for fads. Good wine selection and excellent service. Very reasonable prices for the quality of cuisine you get. Only complaint is that it can be a bit chilly inside so bring a sweater.

“A MUST”

Whether you have a burger, steak or fish its all cooked to perfection. Harry the bartender makes wicked cocktails and they're wine list is large. Desserts are delicious if you can find the room. Don't leave Phoenix without trying this establishment
