The table made guac was great, margaritas we some of the best we have ever had, and the fire-grilled tuna was to die for. Would love to come back in cooler weather to enjoy their huge patio.

You bet I did! I stumbled onto the Canyon Cafe (formerly known as Sam's Cafe and still called that by locals) while looking for a different restaurant in the same Arizona Center complex off Third Street. This large restaurant offers a wide variety of seating options indoors and out, though we chose outside because it was a temperate early evening. The local who steered us in the direction of the restaurant told us that the Chicken Poblano Chowder was not to be missed...and they were absolutely right. In fact, we ended up just having appetizers because they were so good. We each had the chowder first and found the flavor to be mouthfuls of sinfully delicious. Next, we ordered the made-to-order at tableside guacamole, with a choice of some eight different ingredient options to add to your avocado. So, the flavor is what you make it - and you really can't go wrong. We were not as impressed with the chips served with salsa before food began arriving, but this was more personal taste than anything. Too much flavor on the chips contrasting with good salsa. Finally, when our check arrived, it came with a small bit of cold white chocolate with nuts wrapped in a corn husk - a beautifully presented 'sweetie' that was just right. If I'm ever back in Phoenix, this is a must return visit for a bigger bowl of the chowder and maybe an entree option as well!

Thank you so much for visiting Canyon Café. We are so pleased that you enjoyed your visit and especially the Chicken Poblano Chowder. You must come back again next time you are in Phoenix and save room for one of our delicious entrees. And as always, you will finish the meal with our White Chocolate Tamale, or as you described, "a beautifully presented sweetie that was just right." Hope to see you again soon!

Delicious meal, potent margaritas, beautiful patio...what's not to love? Well, the margarita was very pricey for the size, but overall, ti was a lovely meal on a beautiful evening. Lots of choices on the menu. My quesadilla was perfect.

Jody B, you are correct, they are potent margaritas.....that is why they are called Limit-2! Be sure to come back soon and try some of our other delicious choices, like the "Naked" Chile Relleno or the Bison Meatloaf! And maybe try one of the other delicious Limit-2 Margaritas (bring your designated driver along)!

Absolutely the best margarita! It is expensive, but they give you the whole batch (close to 2 drinks). It is made the right way.
Food was excellent. We liked it so much we decided to return the 2nd evening too.
