Good food overall. The guacamole was excellent! The group enjoyed their entrees overall. I had the seared tuna which was very good. Margaritas were potent...which is good . Desserts were also enjoyable - tres leche cake was moist and tastie. Atmosphere was ok. Cost per person was about $40 person with a drink or so.

We went here with 35 people on a Friday night, with a day notice. They were so accommodating! "Al & Ruby" took care of our group...they were great! PS....great food too!

Was downtown with a large group for a play. Had great service and very good tex-mex food. It was clear from the start that all of the food is prepared fresh daily. They even made guacamole at the table. We shared the chefs choice of appetizers. All were very good. My wife and sister shared two of the top shelf Margaretta's. We were served homemade chips. Mixtures of traditional and vegetable chips with a cinnamon-hot spice dusting. They said they were one of the best they had had. By the time we ordered I was already full. I choose the crab cake dinner because I thought it would be small and less filling. Boy was I wrong. The cake was well prepared and of good size. It came with a fresh green salad that had been lightly dressed with oil and vinegar. There was also an accompanying fresh bean/corn salad. Other people ordered the fajitas and fish. All said it was good. We passed around deserts afterward. All were good. The dinner was finished with a white chocolate stick prepared in a corn husk. This place serves real food. Service was very good for a large group. The manager came around to check on us and also thanked us as we left. We will go back if we need to be downtown. Really good Mexican food!

What a pleasure our first visit to Sam's Cafe was last night. A truly outstanding menu. I had shrimp quesedillas and she had a tilapia/crawfish combo. Super dining from the veggie chips to the white chocolate followup...and all at a reasonable price. This one not to be missed.

The dining is dressy casual and the food is wonderful example of the Southwest flavors. I enjoyed the breadsticks with the salsa creamcheese but they have replaced that we chips and salsa which is ok but miss the breadsticks and yummy salsa creamcheese (this place inspired me to make my own at home now). It can be a little spicy so ask for what is spicy and which is mild.
