“Nice, but...”
Reviewed February 28, 2014

We stayed at the Clarendon for 2 nights in Sept before flying out to Denver. We originally booked the hotel because it had really good reviews, and it looked a bit different. Checking in, the hotel service was fantastic, couldnt fault it. They also have a snack bar behind the counter which is covered in the resort cost, which is nice.

The pool area looks really nice, but we found the pool area surrounding it wasnt very clean, with lots of left over towels and drinks etc.

The rooms were nice, but a little shabby in areas (Our safe was broken), they are also quite dark. (but this is nice at night because you can get a good nights sleep!)

Unfortunatley, the rooftop lounge was shut for our stay, so we were a little disappointed we did not get it see it.

The stand out feature of this hotel for us was the resturant (Gallo Blanco). It was absolutley incredible and we actually ate here both night sand once for breakfast! Amazing food.

Overall a nice hotel, with just a few minor issues.

An Arizona staple. Located centrally in downtown Phoenix, this sweet little gem has everything you need. Wether you are on a business trip and you need a quick place to relax OR you're doing a staycation here in town, this hotel is perfect for both. From the award winning restaurant (Gallo Blanco), to the pool/giant jacuzzi, to the simple and clean modern rooms, to the beautiful rooftop bar. I'm a local to Arizona and have been staying with this hotel, and referring out of town guests here, since it's beginnings. I would suggest this hotel to everyone.

Thank you so much for your 5-star review. We have a great following from the local community, and we really appreciate your support over the years as we've continued to make the property better and better every day... we're always working on some pretty major projects. Come back soon and see what we're working on, and keep up the good work in supporting us. It's really nice to know that we've become a landmark in Central Phoenix, and that so many people love what we do!

Sincerely,

We just left yesterday and we were more than pleasantly surprised! Great service, great staff, great value! We enjoyed our stay, loved the pool area and attentive staff. We had girls weekend and would highly recommend this hip fun hotel! Check out the rooftop deck, great views and heated lamps if needed. Best part...we booked on Bookit.com and was quoted the wrong resort fee costs...the Clarendon staff and manager honored our purchase price, we were very impressed and satisfied with that!
Sincerely,
4 hotties from Minnesota :-)

Three things. The pool. The restaurant. The management.

All exceptional! They will do whatever it takes to take care of you. Don't be afraid to ask. Thank again for the fantastic stay. The only thing keeping this from getting five stars was the pool cleaning going on outside my room early in the morning and the rooftop area being a little dirty from what appeared to be a great night before.

I will definitely recommend this to friends and family.

Oh My God...where to start. I was hooked into this hotel because they say on the Website that it is 4-star. Well, this is not a 4-star hotel...more like 2-star at best. What is this hotel? It is a re-conditioned old motel where they have tacked on some mirrored finish to the front, added some umbrellas on the roof, painted the walls and added some art here and there but, basically, if you dress up a pig, it's still a pig. First, let me say the people are nice. The people at the front desk have enthusiasm for their job, but that's where the enchantment ends. The stairs are worn, the carpets to the room are worn, the hallways and rooms smell of mold/mildew and the room was very very disappointing. I booked a "Junior Suite" and that was a joke because what I got was a regular room with an extra chair in it (a chair for one). The room was painted over cement a dull grey, the towels were old and well-used, the view was a parking lot. I requested them to make up the room at 5PM on Day 2 because we had slept in past noon. And the maid never showed-up to make-up the room. After all this, we just gave up and moved to another hotel. The restaurant in the hotel was nice but prices are ridiculous for drinks. A gin and tonic is $10. These people have nerve to market this as an upscale boutique hotel when, in fact, it is a crapy place that is near nothing much of interest. I paid the extra to move to the Omni and wished I had done it earlier.

First of all Yes I know Ben. But the stay at the hotel is a great experience. The staff have gotten better and more caring. I always have a need of more of everything and I am always accommodated. For the price you really can not beat this atmosphere. And most of all it is close to everything in the Happy neighborhood!

Room Tip: Ask the staff and they will tell you about the room. If you know your preferences let them have them...

Perfect for young professionals- incredible staff ( shot out to Shane and Denny) , good restaurant, philosophy products in room, free bottle of wine with every room and 24 hours from Check in to Check out which might be the coolest hotel policy ever. Good job guys!

Thank you so very much for your wonderful review.... and for the shout out for the excellent work of two staff members... just to note, a free bottle of wine does not come with every room (perhaps you were special, or it was a special occasion?), but we are working on implementing a manager's hosted wine hour, with Daniel Pina, our guest services director who is also a certified sommelier. Come back soon and see the improvements we're working on...

Thanks again for the great review!
