I wrote a fairly harsh review back in May when we stayed for about ten days...
The next time we came to this area we stayed at the Westin Kierland.
This time we decided to try the JW again because it was simply closer to the Mayo Clinic...
Well what a delightful surprise. Honestly if I had to guess I'd say there was a shake up with some staff since the last visit.
Absolutely no room service trays left festering In the hallways like last time...competent bellboys and competent valets. Rooms were cleaned by 11am each day. Hotel is having some upgrades done but the quality of the stay was not impacted. We had a superb meal at the Meritage steak house on site...So yes I would stay again.
I also had a spa treatment and it was very good.

We stayed here for a 2yr old Bday. From the time we valeted to the time we left it was a well orchestrated stay. Upon arriving we were greeted by a door man, a "welcomer" in the check in line, the check in person was very professional (well dressed and friendly), and we even got a personalized welcome call from front desk after we got into our room.

We then went to the pool where we ate and drank poolside. It took awhile for the servers to come but then again it was Memorial Weekend. The lazy river was really neat and there was resort staff watching out for the guests.

In the evening we ordered pizza delivered and ate just outside the lobby and the kids ran in the free belt overlooking the little pond. The staff was very excepting of the outside food.

The next morning we shopped at their gift shop and drank coffee from the Starbucks store just across the shop.

Not cheap but you are paying for their excellent service. Overall great stay.

What a terrific hotel. Had a great time over the Labor Day weekend. Staff was so helpful and they worked so hard to make their guests have a great time. The hotel is luxurious and very family friendly. It was nice to have a hotel cater to families which makes it alive and fun and not stuffy like some hotels can be. Would go back in a heartbeat. Terrific pools- lazy river, great staff, nice rooms.

From check in to check out. I found the stay so so. While everyone was friendly, the slow service and confusion among the individuals at the spa really made this an unrelaxed vacation. I am not sure I would ever go back. At least they were not pushing time share purchases as they do in Cabo San Lucas Mexico.

The resort was under construction, which was not the best for a trip. They had two events (Southern BBQ and a LUau) which were both held in doors - REALLY???? For the price, not worth the food quality. How do you have a BBQ and no BBQ ribs?

Room Tip: Go to the Desert ridge shopiing plaza for bar and restaurant choices.

This resort has it all! We had such a wonderful relaxing experience. The staff were excellent, the Griffin Club was worth it and more and the staff up there were wonderful!!! The pools, weather, golf EVERYTHING was fantastic! Room was clean, quiet and roomy, comfortable beds! We've been to quite a few destinations and The Marriott Desert Ridge was the best overall by far!! We will be coming back again and again! Thanks for such a great experience!!

Some friends decided to get married in Phoenix, their 'home away from home'. All the guests stayed at JW Marriott Desert Ridge so that's why we chose this place. We decided to upgrade our hotel package to include daily spa treatments & breakfast ($279/night). SO worth it!!

First of all, this is a huge complex. In addition to the hotel, there are villas across the street and they continue building their empire. We had a great room with a small balcony overlooking 2 of the pools. Most of the time the noise was minimum, but the DJ & music on Labor Day was a bit much.

The spa is supposedly the largest in the state. The professionals there are awesome. We had facials, brown sugar scrubs, hot stone & a couples massage. Something different every day. If you have a spa treatment, you can use the spa's private pool (no children allowed and they play that relaxing spa music). You can also enjoy a healthy meal or glass of champagne by the pool. Plenty of open chairs as well as private cabanas.

We enjoyed a delicious (and pricey) steak dinner at Meritage. We had breakfast every morning in the Tuscany restaurant. Service & food were excellent in both. Everywhere we went throughout the complex we were absolutely impressed with the level of customer service.

Watch outs: most hotels have cabs nearby if you want to check out the city. This resort only has private car service (usually SUV) and they're not exactly cheap. $15 to be taken across the way to shopping/movies. However, taxis in Phoenix are not regulated and can charge you whatever so we always opted for the private car. If you want a taxi anyway, you'll need to call & wait for them to show up. There's always a shiny black SUV waiting outside the resort doors with a great driver. Also, if you have the driver's fee tacked on to your room charge, you'll get taxed. Pay the driver in cash to avoid tax (and negotiate a cheaper fee- they're pretty reasonable).

Again: the only pool that doesn't allow children (amen) is the private spa pool.

When the front desk is assigning your room, you may want to ask where it is according to your plans. If you'll be at the spa every day but can't walk far, you don't want to be in a room way across the complex.

The taxes for your room rate are very low. HOWEVER, the resort tries to nickel & dime you to death!! Wi-Fi is $13/day in the room (free only in the lobby) and they charge a $25 "resort fee". This is something catching on from the greedy Vegas hotels. You don't get anything additional for this fee- it's just $25 additional for some CEO's pocket. Boo!

We really enjoyed the hotel. There's plenty of space for large groups of family/friends to hang out and enjoy each other. The staff is superb. The hotel is very clean & lovely. We'll definitely return.

Room Tip: Request a room closest to the activity you'll use the most. This is a large complex, so no need...

Stayed at the JW Marriott for a 3 day business trip in August 2013. Hotel was not very busy since it was off-season.

My room was very well designed and quite clean. Large bathrooms and big screen tvs were nice features.

Having a Starbucks and a Fed Ex office were nice services that I used.

Would highly recommend this hotel and will stay there again for future meetings.
