Description: Refined Asian-style teahouse by day, funky izakaya by night: Nobuo at Teeter House reflects the fascinating duality of Nobuo Fukuda. The setting — a turn-of-the-century, wood-floored bungalow, awash in earth tones — emulates the relaxed intimacy of Japan’s izakaya, where friends and business associates gather to eat Japanese-style tapas, drink beer and have fun. Nobuo elevates the custom while staying true to its low brow roots, offering rustic Japanese classics with modern American inflections. During the day, a short lunch menu is offered, as are exotic, aromatic teas, meant to be sipped and savored over quiet conversation. In the evening, Nobuo creates"5-Star" cuisine, bringing a Western sensibility to Japanese sushi traditions while combining seasonal ingredients in exciting, inventive ways. Tapas based Japanese dishes. So that means small, wonderful, Japanese snacks that you wish you had a whole plate of... until you try the next one. We took out teenagers her with us for dinner before a play, we loved every bit of it.

If I were allowed to write one word it would have to be "Lamb." Get the lamb, but seriously. We ordered pretty much everything the menu. Each item was beautifully presented and composed of simple, fresh ingredients. The wine selection wasn't great, but the beer choices were quite exotic. At the end of the meal we congradulated the sous-chef, Chris, on a masterful job. In responce we recieved complimentary uni icecream; what an interesting treat! Oh yes, be sure to get the lamb.

Just had dinner at Nobuo last night - hands down one of the best meals I've ever had. This is how Japanese food should taste! The ingredients were incredibly fresh and presentation was beautiful. The combination of flavors were unique and actually inspiring to those of us at the table. You MUST get the curry lamb if you go - it was probably the most tender cut of lamb I've ever had. At the end of the night, the chef actually came out to meet us and totally entertained our millions of questions. It was truly a special night!

The food is magical and thrilling and unlike food that you would eat at home. I do note the portions are tiny and you need to order 3 or 4 plates a person. We enjoyed everything and started with the Watermellon Radish Sunomono and the sugar snap peas they were more wonderful than I can describe. Next we tried the Grapefruit & hamachi and the shiromi carpaccio that they pour a boiling oil on and these two plates are like fireworks in your mouth with so much going on. The most interesting dish might be the Fried Black Cod because of the edible fried fish bones. We washed them down with flights of the Japanese vodka like liquors , It was just magical!
