We visited this museum after I saw a brochure at the hotel in Tempe. I am now recommending that my friends visit Phoenix just to go to this wonderful place. The exhibits are not like those I have seen elsewhere. It is a delight to be able to see and hear so many diverse forms of music in one location. My son and I had fun with testing the limits of the headsets. You can stand in the same place but face in different directions and hear the sounds of a different exhibit. The display of musical instruments was diverse and there is something for everyone to enjoy.

The museum is so big that it is difficult to take it all in in one visit. We went through the ground floor first and by the time we got upstairs and through the first room, sensory exhaustion started to set in. There are so many countries represented with their native forms of music! I plan to go back, start with countries, and explore each continent more fully. This is the kind of place that one visit is not enough!

The MIM is absolutely amazing. The span of musical instrument history and culture is incredible. The headsets are hugely helpful and edifying. One suggestion, take a couple of breaks. This is a huge museum. It can be a bit overwhelming. Stop, enjoy a snack, walk outside, discuss. Well worth the time. One of a kind experience.

If you like music, you will like this museum! You get to see how music is incorporated in the lives of people on the different continents. You also have an opportunity to physically play certain instruments. They also have a nice cafe with decent food and an auditorium where they occasionally hold concerts. It's a fairly new museum and it is big, so if you want to cover it all, you should wear comfortable walking shoes.

Very impressed with this museum. They really made it interesting. Very big. They do allow you to leave and come back later that day. We are not big music people but found it to be very well done. Nice displays and interactive audio. A lot of walking and listening. I don't think I would take young children there. The interactive display was fun when you got to play some of the unusual instruments you saw in the museum. The grounds and building are new and nice. It looks like they have some fun events in the evening there that would be worth while.
