Three of us ate at Hana last night and greatly enjoyed the food. We had the edamame , calamari cutlets (excellent!), salads and four sets of rolls. Then we topped it all off with a custom sampler of delicious ice cream!
The edamame was good, but not outstanding (some beans were a bit woody). The lightly breaded, deep fried, then narrowly sliced calamari steaks were wonderful, cooked perfectly (hot and tender!), but the side sauce that came with the calamari was a bit watery--I'd prefer a spicy cream sauce, like their tasty salad dressing or the spicy mayo put on some of the rolls.
The salads were nice, with an unusual creamy dressing. Not miso and not ranch, but something in between?? The rolls were wonderful! We had the tootsie roll which was crunchy and the crab salad and cucumber were nice and fresh. Their fairly unique chicken katsu roll was delicious--We love Katsu, and having it in a roll form was extra special! My daughter got her own portion of the sweet egg curd rolls which she said were very good. And we finished up with the Las Vegas roll which was served nice and hot (freshly tempura'd) which allowed the cream cheese to get nice and gooey. A great contrast to the fresh smoked salmon. Wow!
To top it all off we had their red bean, green tea and mango ice cream for dessert, and talked the waiter into giving us a scoop of each (normally two scoops of one type is the usual serving). Loved the red bean and the green tea. We found the mango was a bit sweet for our taste buds. But all in all, it was a great finish to a wonderful meal!
Our only complaint of the evening was that the restaurant was too warm. Ok, its over 110F outside in Phoenix this time of year. But, you'd think they could get better A/C ventilation. They did have the numerous ceiling fans on which helped somewhat.
Is summary, the food is great and the prices are reasonable. We highly recommend!
