Quality Inn & Suites Phoenix
Ranked #104 of 174 Hotels in Phoenix
Reviewed March 16, 2014

We stayed here 3 nights while attending Spring Training baseball in the valley.
Getting to this motel is a little daunting, especially since it sits RIGHT OFF the southbound exit of I-17 on a ONE WAY road. So if you are coming from the west you have to be creative to find your way to the parking lot. Review your map/GPS before coming here, though.
ISSUES:

The room is dated, as are the furnishings. The TVs were old tube type and certainly need replacing. The room is in need of upgrade (this is a Quality Inn, right) as the furnishings and bathroom decor is a couple of decades old. The phone looks like it was through a war, cord all stretched and mangled. Carpet is old and stained, the bed cover had a cigarette burn hole in it, etc. One of the lamps near the bed wouldn't turn on, upon further investigation it looked like someone tried to remove the lamp and pulled the socket out...this was reported to the desk and repaired the next day. I was a bit concerned about a shock and/or fire hazard with this.

ON THE FIRST DAY we arrived (5PM) and the line was out the door (apparently fully booked). There was only one person servicing the front desk. This was a very unfortunate decision by someone, it left a number of people in line grumbling. If you are going to be full you should make sure there is another person there, at least during check in. It took us 25 minutes to get to the front desk in order to check in. The front desk phone kept ringing and since there was only 1 person there, the caller was asked to hold on (the calls never did get answered all the time I was standing there).
ON THE SECOND DAY we woke up to realize there were no bath towels in the bathroom, had to take a trip to the front desk to grab some.
ON THE SECOND DAY we returned to the room at 5PM to find it had not been serviced yet, good thing I didn't have to go to sleep immediately. So I had to go to the desk and request the room be serviced. It happened quickly, but why wasn't it done earlier in the day?!?
ON THE LAST DAY we heard dripping in the bathroom, got up and looked to see water dripping from the ceiling...this was reported to the desk.

WHAT WENT RIGHT:
The desk staff was excellent the entire time, with the single person at the desk on day 1 to the 3 that were there the remaining days...all were eager to assist and correct issues.
The breakfast was ok for a Comfort Inn: eggs, bacon, biscuits and gravy, ready to make waffles, coffee, milk, juice, cereal, etc. was maintained fairly well during the breakfast period.

PERSONAL COMMENTS:
This location is self-identified as a Quality Inn and Suites. I can't accept that name badge, it is clearly a Comfort Inn. The name change must have happened recently because my GPS still shows it as "Comfort Inn - Phoenix". I would expect a little more at a Quality Inn and Suites. I rated it 'Average' based on the assumption this is a Comfort Inn, if I rated it against my standards for a Quality Inn and Suites it would be 'Below Average'.
The stay was comfortable while sleeping, fairly quiet if you have a room on the back side of the building (away from the freeway). The parking area was well lit and I felt safe while at the location even though this is not what I would call a safe part of town.
Free WiFi worked ok in the room, better in the breakfast area.

Room Tip: Rooms around back (opposite the freeway) are very quiet and there is lots of parking back there.

The Hotel isn't anything special, but the check in girl Hilda went the distance to adjust our dates and do her best to make a possible error into a positive experience. Also in the morning, Joanne was super friendly and accommodating in the Breakfast area, she even remembered us from our previous visit the month before. Great hot tub and clean rooms.

Traveled to Phoenix to attend Spring Training games. This hotel was very convenient to the various parks we went to. Our queen suite was clean and comfortable. We liked having the kitchen area with a small sitting area. The free breakfast was nothing fancy, but met our needs. The free WiFi was a little slow, but worked fine. There are restaurants close by such as Outback and a Mexican food place. We would stay there again.

We stayed here for baseball and to visit my son at GCU. Breakfast team, front desk guys everyone was friendly. Our upgrade to a jacuzzi room for being a rewards member was beyond anything we expected. Thank You!!This is a perfect time of the year to stay in Phoenix.

Stayed March 7 and 8, 2014 while I went for Dodgers Spring Training. This Hotel is Average at best. Location is right off Camelback Rd and HWY 17. Beds were stiff, bedding was nothing to write home about. Room, of average size, still had old tube TV. Shower could have used a better cleaning. The area isn't the greatest, but I didn't feel unsafe.
The skinny: If you want to save money and will just use the room to sleep, then book it. Spend the savings on your vacation (like we did). IF you are expecting a nice room (and better hotel), then stay at a more upscale hotel (and spend a few more bucks). Complimentary breakfast in am was fair. Hard to mess up coffee, yogurt, waffle, toast, and bagels, etc... Go DODGERS!

Room Tip: Rooms closer to Highway 17 are probably noisy. We faced the Pool on the 1st floor. I don't think...

We were happy with everything about our stay. Comfortable king size bed. Sam was excellent at the front desk. Joanna was a friendly hostess serving breakfast. Enjoyed the afternoon popcorn snack served in the lobby. Used the lobby computer to print our flight tickets which saved us time and money at the airport. We will definitely stay there again on our next trip to Phoenix.

We were in town for a funeral and chose Quality Inn despite the low ratings, mostly due to location. Booked two rooms - a King and a double Full. I’m not sure what all the complaints are about. Sure, it’s not the Ritz, but for the price it’s quite a bargain. We were more than satisfied with every aspect of our stay. For about the same price as a Motel 6 you get much better accommodations, a more competent/friendly staff, and breakfast. We look forward to staying here on our next visit to Phoenix.

PROS:
Large rooms
Comfortable beds
Very, very clean
Large bathroom counter
Plenty of hot water
Table and chairs in room
Good lighting
Lots of free parking
Evening staff is outstanding – especially Mike and Sam
Decent selection at breakfast buffet

CONS:
Weird square bed pillows are uncomfortable to sleep on
Water pressure could be better
Rooms short on electrical outlets
Day staff is not as friendly (but still very competent)
No snack vending machines – just drinks
Check-out time is 11:00am instead of noon

Room Tip: The stairs and elevators are basically at the ends of the building. If you want to avoid a longer wa...
