Hanny's is in an old clothing store. Established in the '20's Hanny's Clothes sold Hart, Schafner & Marx suits -- the top of the line for those days. That business closed in the '80's. Eventually, the restaurqnt was established. The building looks like it was just about the only old building in that part of downtown to escape the wrecker's ball and become a high-rise something. The entrance is on 1st Street and the side is on Adams. Most of the floor is taken up by a bar (three sides of a rectangle). They sell mixed drinks, beer and wine. I had a Stone Levitation beer. Who could resist a name like that? It had a grapefuity flavor and was excellent.
The pizza is wonderful. The crust is like a giant oval cracker. The sauce is thinly spread but excellent. I had the Americano, which is Italian sasage, mushrooms, onions, and one more thing which I forgot. It was about a foot from end to end but only 6 inches or so wide. With the cracker-like crust, it went down very easily. As I recall, it was $13.50, and the beer was $5.50. Hanny's is about a block from the Hyatt Regency Phoenix. Along with Steve's Green House Grill, also on Adams, it is the closest to the hotel.
