My son and I visited during a recent Arizona vacation. We went early to avoid as much heat as possible. We were there from 8:30-11:30. The grounds are well shaded in the front which made it tolerable. We took the tram ride around the park and enjoyed the narration from the driver. We learned a lot about the animals there and the zoo programs. It is a professional zoo with worldwide initiatives. There are animals everywhere and some habitats allow close up visits with the animals. Overall I was impressed with this zoo and would go back.

We took advantage of their special admission price $10 per person but otherwise the regular posted fee is pretty pricey. Food is expensive. They charged alot of money to feed the giraffes, ride the camel, and touch the stingrays.
It's a beautifully designed zoo. We saw a few different animals were haven't seen before and we were pleased with the open concept cages of the "residents." It was very hot but there is a splash area to cool down in.

Visiting the Phoenix zoo was great as we got to see all types of animals and we could see the installations were well maintained and the animals tended to. I went there in late June and the heat was quite intense which caused the animals to hide out in the shade a lot so you couldn't see all of them very clearly so I would recommend going during another season. It was still very fun though and recommend it to everyone.

If you aren't from the area, it will be over 100 degrees most of the spring and summer. Get there when it opens and you will have a pleasant walk through the zoo. This zoo had a lot of neat things other zoos we have been to do not. It had the carousel and train and such like other zoos. One of the nicest features was how accessible the primate exhibits were, you could get very close and get really good pictures. They also have a monkey house--kinda like a butterfly house---only you are in a large cage with tiny monkeys scurrying about. It is a blast! (And there is a zookeeper in there with you in case the monkeys go crazy.) There is a large petting zoo. There are several play areas with splash pads. There are plenty of places to get snacks and there are plenty of bathrooms. The zoo is landscaped nicely and clean. There is a large variety of animals and the zoo is large so it will take you awhile to get through it. Also, there are tons of free roaming bunnies and large lizards. We are not from the area and we got the biggest kick out of all the rabbits. I am including pictures.

Well no, they're not really crackers, but every animals in the cracker box is at this zoo. The habitats are well maintained and natural in appearance and good sized so that the animals have room to move around. The zoo is clean, the staff are friendly, and we like to come often to photograph animals for young children with cancer. We bring them paper and crayons and encourage them to draw scenes of the animals we have photographed to help brighten their day and take their minds off of the troubles that face them.
