The secret to climbing up to the Hole in the Rock is that there is an easy trail/path up the back-side!

I had to check this out even after being tired from walking around the botanical garden and being hungry. So glad I did though! It was absolutely beautiful when we went during sunset. Like everyone says, the path is easy even when carrying a toddler. It was definitely worth it and a must see when visiting in Phoenix.

This site in Phoenix is very nice. From the front, it looks like a challenging hike to the Hole in the Rock. But thanks to the park designers, they built steps in the back for those of use who are not true hikers. They steps allows even a coach potato to climb up without too much challenge.

The view from inside the Hole in the Rock is spectacular. Visit the Hole in the Rock. Great pictures and a great experience.

I am by no means fit, but this was a blast to climb up here. I agree with the caution about being slippery when wet and I would like to add that if you go off the "trail" it seems every bottle that has ever entered Phoenix has been broken in the rocks, but the pieces are small and I was only wearing hiking sandals (Tevas) and had no problems. You can hike up either side, but the approach from the "back" is the easiest climb. I took photos of a group of 70+ year olds up there. Don't let your little ones wander off.

You hike up, get a decent view, then attempt to not be killed as you come back down. do not attempt under ANY wet conditions, this rock is compressed clay and becomes slippery as greased concrete.
