“It was just fine”
3 of 5 bubbles Reviewed July 22, 2011

Having stayed at the HIE for two nights, I can safely say that the rooms are fine, the service was fine, and the location was fine. While is nothing special about this hotel, it is clean, relatively affordable, and has more amenities than one might expect out of a HIE. The breakfast selection was awful (the buffet included seriously expired cartons of yogurt and very tired fruit), but one doesn't stay at a HIE expecting a gourmet dining experience. The pillows are fantastic (hard and soft available in room). Just fine for a business travel experience.

A hotel is defined by the quality of service that it provides to its guests. Because our success is measured by how our guests evaluate our services and facilities, I want you to know that the comments and suggestions we receive are taken seriously. They tell us what we’re doing right, what we’re doing wrong and how we can improve. Your willingness to share your recent experience is genuinely appreciated. We are in the process of updating our hotel and services and your experience highlights the need for us to do so. I apologize. I have reviewed your comments and shared them with the entire management staff and appropriate action has been taken to ensure a situation of this nature will not be repeated in the future. We look forward to welcoming you back in an effort to provide you the level of service you expect from Holiday Inn Express Phoenix/Chandler.

Stayed 6 nights. $30 cab ride from Sky Harbor Airport. Easy access from I 10. Rented car from Elliot Rd. using Hertz' "pickup and drop off" service as the airport costs $150 more with added surcharges and taxes.
Hotel was excellent. Clean, comfortable beds and pillows, friendly staff, good breakfast, 24hr coffee, adequate parking, feels safe and number of gas stations, restaurants and fast food places nearby. Only set back was slower Wi-Fi.

Room Tip: Elevator at one end of building. East facing rooms have Highway view. Has good insulation to cut of...

We stay a lot at Holiday Inn Express and usually like the hotels. We will not stay at this hotle again when returning and would recommend families not to stay here.

Cons:
1. We were told there are only King bed rooms available not facing the noisy interstate. This will leave most families (2 Queen bed rooms) on the noisy side of the hotel. We turned on the fan to drown out the noise. The AC when it kicks on is very loud. They were unflexible in accommodating room preference such as being on higher floors and also facing away from the interstate.
2. No side or back entrances. You can only enter or leave the hotel by two front exits. This included handicap parking located on the side entrances away front entrances which is unusual for most hotels.
3. Although smoking is prohibited inside the hotel (Which was in forced), they do seem to allow smoking in the front and next to pool area. Some smokers were polite and moved farther away when our kids were in the pool area but others sat out and smoked away making guest who were at the pool breathe in 2nd hand smoke. Also it seemed this was a cocktail area with people drinking beers and smoking. Not really a good family atmosphere.
4. Only 1 washer and 2 dryers located on floor 3.
5. The receptionists need to work on providing friendlier service.
6. Breakfast food did run out one day when a swim team came down and cleared it out. We came back down about an hour later and it was restocked. Holiday Inn Express seem to have more teams and groups staying at them because they offer group discounts.
7. Small breakfast area - you may need to take the food on run.
8. No usual cookies except for one night out five.

Pros:
1. Except for the noisy interstate, the room was pretty quiet. The doors are very heavy and close loud. I think the hotel was not very busy but I only heard the doors closing outside the room a few times and didn't hear any noise from the other rooms except when walking down the hall.
2. Comfortable beds.
3. Pretty pool. Jacuzzi can't stay warm enough once the sun goes down but I figure this is Phoenix weather and most of the time people prefer it a little cooler in the pools. Pool is clean but heavy in chlorine so bring the googles and moisturizer.
4. Clean rooms, hallways and lobby.

We were visiting relatives in the Chandler area and wanted to stay at a hotel nearby their home. So glad we found the Holiday Inn Express. It was extremely clean and the room was very comfortable. Housekeeping staff was superb. The only thing I found lacking was the breakfast in the morning. When we arrived downstairs, there was no coffee, no eggs left and two-three slices of bacon swimming in grease. There was cold cereal, but no spoons to eat the cereal. I asked at the front desk for spoons and the girl behind the desk was quite annoyed with the interruption. Skip the breakfast and head to the Cracker Barrel down the street which was excellent (food and service fantastic).

Found this hotel after everything in Phoenix was booked up for some convention that was going on downtown. I was tired and desperate for a room so I gave it a shot. The guy who checked me in at the front desk was very friendly, they gave me two free bottles of water when I checked in. The room was not big, I had two queen beds (only thing available) but it looked like there was really only adequate room for a king. However, my criticism ends there. Bed was clean and comfortable, the room was in great shape. Free wifi was really fast. Late checkout available. Bathroom was in great condition. Overall this hotel did not seem brand new, but new enough that it was in great condition. I would have no reservations staying at this hotel again.
