Stayed at the Hotel San Carlos for a meeting in Phoenix. Clean room, comfortable bed, very narrow bathroom- have to turn sideways to go from the toilet, to sink, to shower. Interesting posters by the elevators on each floor, e.g., Happenings at Elvis' visits to Phoenix in 1950s and 1970s; reported ghost sightings of a woman who threw herself off the 7th floor the night before her wedding. Free WiFi and business center, work out room. Very convenient location for the light rail. Great transportation to the airport - $2 for a one day pass ($1 for 65 and older!). Very friendly riders (Yes, Phoenix is the friendliest airport in the country).

The hotel downtown location is convenient, though a little boring. The staff is helpful, but the rooms are too small and too noisy, especially at night. And I would advise the manager, Angela H, to learn some more English.

Tend to agree with the other ratings that this hotel has some character, but that doesn't outweigh the downsides of poor service, tight accomodations and noisy setting. Location in the middle of Phoenix is the biggest plus.

If you want generic modern lodging (a Days Inn or similar) this one is not for you. If you want a piece of history that is well maintained by independent owners, you'll have a great experience. I love this place, with all its echoes of the 1940s and 1950s. So much character. The Mae West suite is especially recommended. Any outward-facing room has a great morning view of sunlight on the towers of downtown. Helpful staff, great location.

By far, the worst Hotel I have ever stayed. Dirty, dark, old, empty, noisy..............¿More information? Dirty bathroom, no safety box, no bell boys, no restaurant, , expensive (for the price you pay you can get much better options); it was built 100 year ago, .................run away as far as you can. ¿Do you want to arrive late anyplace? Use the elevator; it should be at a museum. Of course, I will never return to San Carlos Hotel

i stayed at this hotel for one night thank god it was one night i asked for a king room and got a queen but i was to tired to complain the bed was horrible you could feel very spring in your back the room was very small i know this is an older hotel but the television was on the side of the bed so you get a sore neck after 10 mins they need to rearrange the furniture so its user friendly. the only saving grace was that its right down town would not stay there again with so many other choices near by

Room Tip: don't stay here

Absolutely worst hotel I have ever stayed at. It was booked by my assistant so I didn't look into before hand. I would not stay here if they gave me a free room. The rooms are small, there is no lobby other than a desk for check in. The bathroom is from the 18th century.

This place makes the courtyard Marriott look like a Ritz Carlton. Furniture in room looks original which is not a good thing.

Do yourself a favor and find another hotel. Phoenix has a lot of great hotels, but this isn't one of them.
