Was in Phoenix, and have never been up South Mountain Park, and Dobbins Lookout. We drove the nice road up to a parking area near the lookout and was totally amazed and impressed. What a neat place, and view of the Phoenix metroplex. You can see Downtown, the Camelback Mountains, and all around looking North, and Northwest and Northeast. Well worth the drive, and plenty of walking/hiking paths up there. The park closes at night, so go early especially in the Summer as it is Very Hot in Phoenix.

Popular spot. Passed many hikers on the trail mid week, mid morning. Parking is limited. Trail is steep in some parts, but with good traction, manageable. Bring hiking poles if your balance is challenged. Very scenic. Lots of wildflowers and interesting rock formations. Bring water. Map from web site needs to be updated.

Received a $105 parking ticket for passenger side tires being in the dirt. No signs telling me I had to stay all the way on the pavement...if so, then I would have done just that...easily. Btw, I wasn't the only one given a ticket. Other than that it was a nice hike.

We drove to the very top and then took a hike down Holbert. For a novice hiker, the going down part was great, the going up was a great workout. We wanted to do Camel Back but it's closed till Fal 2013 - probably a good thing as it's supposed to be a much tougher hike :-) Great photo spots! Lots of different trails. Will try another next time. Bring water!

We drove to Doggins lookout at the top and parked the car there. We then hiked down Holbert trail and back up. A great hike, steeper at the top and more gentle at the bottom. Views from the top are amazing. Took us 45 minutes to get to the water tank and 55 minutes back up.
