A beautifully done botanical garden dedicated to desert plants.
It was one of the highlights of our trip.

Visiting relatives in Phoenix, this was my first visit to this wonderful experience of desert life. The bonus happened to be the additional living exhibit of migrating Monarch butterflies. There was a nominal additional charge to see the living display of butterflies. It was definitely the highlight of the tour to have butterflies circling and landing on flowers inches from you and your readied camera. The rest of the exhibit was also exceptionally displayed with every type of Sonora Desert plant complete with labels along the winding walkways. There were many volunteers and staff to answer questions and fully explain uses for many of the variety of plants. We arrived mid-morning when there were still plenty of wildlife to be seen in the natural habitat. I took my elderly parents which were able to walk the complete park, but enjoyed several rests in shady areas on benches provided along the trails. Sunscreen is a must! Costs; even with $1 off coupons and senior discounts, it took the best part of a $50 bill to get in but we wandered through the trails for about three hours. Unfortunately they were renovating the gift shop so they were closed. At any rate, it was well worth the bucks.

We went to the Friday night concert at the Desert Botanical Gardens. This is a wonderful experience for both visitors and locals. The ambience is wonderful and food and drink are offered for purchase. The catering company the night we attended was Fabulous Foods and the food was very good. Besides one main dinner entree there are also other choices of sandwiches and salads. Wine and beer are also available. Get there early to get a good table and enjoy something to eat and drink. We have been to several of these and have never been disappointed. The whole garden of course is worth spending time visiting. The docents and volunteers are wonderfully helpful and friendly! Become a member and the concerts are less expensive.

This is a great place to spend a few hours. We try and go at least once per season as you'll see different flowers, plants, butterflys, etc.

We really enjoyed the garden. It was a great introduction to the desert and the desert plants.
The staff were knowledgeable and the friendly. They took the time to stop and answer our questions.
We left knowing more about cacti than we had before.
