Phoenix has a wonderful Art Museum that always has wonderful shows in addition to its permanent display area where pieces are changed as new pieces are acquired or donated to the museum. This is a place to spend a windy, cold day - there is even a restaurant where you can have a cup of tea or coffee and just relax.

I like museums but they can get tiresome sometimes. This one was lots of fun! Even the 7 and 9 year olds with us enjoyed it. The museum itself is an interesting building but the displays were outstanding. I loved the thousands of paper butterflies that made up one display that wandered through a couple of rooms. The art pieces were attractive and joyous. It was a real treat.

Wide variety of art, from a 5000 yr old earthenware bowl to 18C ceramics, impressionists, western art (Frederick Remington and many others), and modern art.

I enjoyed this museum as much as I did the Met in NYC, The Getty Center in LA, and the Indianapolis Museum of Art.

The art works are well documented and provided good background material. Lighting is good, and I was able to take passable photos without flash (which is prohibited).

This was my third trip to Phoenix but my first to the Phoenix Art Museum. I will be returning! The special exhibits were quite well done and very contemporary (during my visit), while the permanent collection contains a wide variety of periods and artists. The gift shop is quite nice, and so is the restaurant.

The art walk about at the end of January was a wonderful experience for my family. We enjoyed the variety of artists and the opportunity to see some artist performing.
