“Modern/contemporary art a strength, do a docent tour”
Reviewed April 10, 2012

Visiting older relatives in PHX so seeking something new to do. The Phoenix Art Museum was a pleasant surprise. We arrived at 2 pm in time for the docent tour of the modern/contemporary art collection and the docent did a very good job of highlighting their masterworks and explaining their context. PAM owns a couple of Turner Prize winners or finalists, which is more than our city museum has.
The current temporary exhibits were very interesting (Frank Lloyd Wright, photojournalist, and a wonderful southwestern woodblock artist, Gustav Baumann) so we were very pleased.

Surprisingly, the western art collection didn't excite me as much... perhaps museum fatigue.

A couple of notes: restaurant is not on the website but had a nice menu; parking is free; admission is free for Bank of America cardholders the first full weekend of each month.

“Has been to better”

They don't have a lot of artifacts or a lot in general, but this is Phoenix. Something to see when it is too hot to do anything else!

“Good variety”
Reviewed April 5, 2012

I spent an evening here with a friend on vacation. There is a good variety of stuff and lots to see. We didn't care for all of the exhibits, but there was enough to keep us busy and satisfied.

“Stop by; there's something for everyone”

I'm lucky enough to live close to the museum so generally go there a few times each month. They have lots of activities on Wednesday evenings -- when it's FREE (but please make a donaiton!). Great shows and an impressive collections.

“Great variety, interesting for everyone.”
Reviewed March 30, 2012

This art museum was enjoyable for all. The exhibits are smaller but still interesting. You don't get that "blah" feeling from walking around a museum all day. The staff is also very helpful and informed. The curates walk around and will answer any questions or give you direction to the next galary. We enjoyed the Frank Lloyd Wright exhibit, the photography exhibit, and the Asian art (just to name a few). There is also a restaurant inside the museum which had pretty good, though expensive, food and the head bar-tender was kind of snooty and on a power-trip. Other than that, the butternut squash bisque is delicious! Overall, I think any one would enjoy this place. I am not an artist, my knowledge of art is sparse, but I did enjoy this museum and my husband did, too! (Admission for adults is only 12 dollars so it's a bargain!)
