I stumbled across the Sunglow Ranch during my travels through the Chiricahua mountains some years ago. I noticed the sign from the side of the road, and thought it might be an interesting place to explore. I wondered in a dusty traveler, and poked my head into the cafe. I hadn't had breakfast yet that morning, and got a pleasant surprise: even though breakfast had ended for the guests, the chef offered to cook just for me. The omelette she made was delicious, and tasted even better with the friendliness it came with.
For anyone who has seen the Chiricahua's in August, I don't need to tell you how beautiful and green it is - the sunflowers along the roadside can literally grow as tall as you are. Just taking in the beauty of the area, and the peace I felt at the Sunglow, made me know I would go back.
Two years later, I asked my girlfriend (now fiance) to marry me at the Sunglow Ranch. We picked September, and once again encountered beautiful green landscapes on our drive down the 181.
Sunglow made our stay incredible. They arranged a private sunset dinner on the porch of the cafe, and they added my fiance's favorite dessert to the menu - just for her that night. At my simple request, they had her favorite flowers -which are not easy to find- on the table and in our room. One of the ranch managers, Andrea, served us dinner to make sure everything happened just right. And it did. Dessert came, along with the ring and two glasses of champagne... We now have a beautiful memory we look back on with fondness, and talk about re-living some day in the future.
I think fondly of the kindness and hospitality we received at the ranch as something I have never experienced elsewhere. We just felt so warm, and...welcome. If you need a breath away from the world, and enjoy beauty and hospitality, you will find it at the Sunglow.
