“Fantastic one day trip”
Reviewed September 19, 2007

Slighty hairy journey by school bus down to the launch. Large stable motorised raft with cheerful indian driver. Probably tame by serious trips but great fun for beginners in the rapids. Brilliant to be down in the canyon at river level. Got caught in a rain shower & suddenly very cold. (You do need your waterproofs available even if blue sky at the start.) Short scramble up to the waterfall worth it. Lunch just adequate but plenty of drinks. Helicopter ride short (10mins max) but great fun. Would have been a late night if back by bus only-heli may be cancelled for storm especially in summer. We stayed in Hulapi night before-early start & Kingman night after at Hampton-much better. Kingman had a Walmart for stuff we needed for the trip-nothing between Grand Canyon & Peach Springs! Take a waterproof camera/case.

“A total nightmare”
Reviewed August 13, 2007

7:30 We gather at the lodge for instructions. There is a large group from Elder Hostel and grandchildren abound. I am traveling with my two grandsons, 11 and 9 years old.

We followed all the direcxtions and brought all of the suggested items. Two buses started out from the lodge to the river. Our bus broke down half way there on a remote rocky road.. No problem the other bus will come back for us. Our bus driver recommended we start walking. OOOOPs! the bus that went on to the river had all of the water!!!! Temps are now close to 90 degrees.

Finally we arrive at the river, we are told get lifejackets first, staff will assist you. Sullen adolescents are amiably chatting amongst themselves and could hardly be concerned about assisting customers with life jackets.

We are told to go to raft #5, we don't see raft #5, then "Rambo" told us we were group 5 and to get on raft 6. We take off two hours behind schedule. The river is raging and muddy, we are soon laughing as we look at each other and our muddy faces. The water is 45 degrees, our outfitter delights as the passengers are hit by each cold muddy sheet of water.

We stop to see the water fall, climb the rope ladder, hurry, hurry. The kids ask for snacks. Our guide seems hesitant but finally comes up with sodas and chips and peanuts. The snacks are soon soggy from the water spray. Lunch was later passed out sandwiches but with little time to eat them because we were behind schedule.

The weather turns, rain, wind, lighting! Helicopters will not be able to land. We wil have to go one another 2 1/2 hours to Lake Mead to the take out. The other guides seem to be sharing a joke with our guide as they pass us by. There is something wrong with the moter. The guid keeps stopping and starting the
motor. It gets clogged with debris. He says that we have a loss of power. The other rafts reach the lake an hour ahead of us.

Buses await, to dirve us back to the Lodge, 2 1/2 hours away. The bus drive admits he does not know if we have enough gas to make it.
We do make it. The lodge did prepare ataco supper for us when we returned at 9:30PM.

The Hualapai Indian staff were insolent and obviously resentful of their customers. They took delight in our discomfort and anxiety. At one point our guide stated that if we were unhappy he would just let us out on the side of the river and we could wait there until the helicopters could get us the next day.

Imust say that the other family in the raft wiht us were excellent , and good sports but it was far beyond funny. We were seriously concerned for our children.

“Best Day You'll Have!!!”
Reviewed July 24, 2007

This is a 1 day raft trip down the Colorado in the Grand Canyon and there are just no words to adequately describe it. The raft trip was incredible and the people who ran the operation were outstanding.

They bus you down the only road to the bottom where you load into your boats. Then you take off on the most magnificent trip. The rapids are perfect!! They provide drinks thru out the day and a huge sandwich for lunch. We stopped at a waterfall that we climbed up to that was just beautiful. At the end of the ride (about 5 hours) you take a helicopter ride to the top (I believe this was Grand Canyon West where the Skywalk would be...but we didn't go to it). Then they bus you back to the Hualapai Lodge (which is where we stayed & I would highly recommend).

If you have the time...this is a MUST do...I am hooked on rafting and can't wait to go back.
