“Really? In Patagonia?”
Reviewed February 17, 2013

Just got back from a weekend in AZ wine country and beyond, including Sonoita, Bisbee, Tombstone, and yes Patagonia. To be honest, there's not a lot to see / do / eat in Patagonia so our expectations were pretty low. We had heard of Velvet Elvis here on Trip Advisor so stopped in for a late lunch on Friday afternoon. So first, thanks to other Trip Advisor folks for tipping us off. Here's the review:

Ambiance: Modern decor, cool art on the walls, including the Velvet Elvis itself. Nicely done and unexpected (to be a recurring theme). In addition, there is a very nice outdoor patio area out front facing the street, including a covered pergola table (again unexpected). Too cool for us to sit out there, but would definitely recommend it once it warms up.
Service: We were the only ones in the house, the waiter was attentive but not overly such. Not a very talkative guy so didn't get a lot of input from him, but he was certainly friendly and efficient.
Food: This place is known for their pizzas. But they also offer "exotic specials" which today was a purple yam and winter squash curry (really? in Patagonia?). This dish was tremendous. The curry wasn't too heavy, the veggies were done just right, the rice accompaniment was terrific. We also had the La Mariachi Blanco 10" pizza which was good in it's own right, but the curry dish won the day. The pizza toppings and sauce were creative and good, the crust was just okay but nothing special. So the pizza gets a 7, the curry dish gets a 10. Maybe they should shift more focus to the curry dishes!
Price: Two entrees and one beer came to about $30 with tip.

Final assessment: If you're in Patagonia anywhere near lunch or dinner time, stop by this place. You will not be disappointed. We were very pleasantly surprised that we found such a top notch place. Would definitely return and take friends!

“What a positive surprise”
Reviewed February 7, 2013 via mobile

I was expecting a cheesy place but it was far from that. We had the home made soup and it delighted our taste buds. The guacamole dressing for the salad was very tasty. The roll and vegan soup were divine. The service was very good, decor tasteful and quiet. Don't pass it up.

“Don't let the name fool you. The food is very good.”
Reviewed February 1, 2013

I know. The name! Yet, since it was the only place nearby that sounded good, we tried it. Good idea! The pizza was excellent, the wine overpriced and the other food and the service were very good. Since there are few options, go here and be grateful it is this good.

“A Funky Cool Gem”
Reviewed January 23, 2013

We stopped at the Velvet Elvis for lunch after spending the early part of the day hitting some of the vineyards in southern AZ. To be honest, I did some research on dining possibilities and once I saw the name of this place I knew I had to go there. We dined outside on the front patio and had the pizza. Very good pizza and great service. A cool vibe. I probably should have purchased a t-shirt but they may have been the only mediocre part of the experience.

“Who would expect the best in Patagonia, Arizona???”
Reviewed January 8, 2013

I've eaten three times at the Velvet Elvis - always a treat and a reason to go to Patagonia. Be sure to plan your visit carefully - they are only open Thursday, Friday and Saturday. Sometimes on Sunday. The food is all wonderfully prepared. They are purported - by Governor Janet Napolitano, no less, to be the best Pizza Parlor in the State of Arizona. That may be, but their soups, salads, breads are all excellent. It is just a very special place. Go birding, go hiking, go to ghost towns, but plan to not leave without eating at The Velvet Elvis!!
