Just got back from a weekend in AZ wine country and beyond, including Sonoita, Bisbee, Tombstone, and yes Patagonia. To be honest, there's not a lot to see / do / eat in Patagonia so our expectations were pretty low. We had heard of Velvet Elvis here on Trip Advisor so stopped in for a late lunch on Friday afternoon. So first, thanks to other Trip Advisor folks for tipping us off. Here's the review:
Ambiance: Modern decor, cool art on the walls, including the Velvet Elvis itself. Nicely done and unexpected (to be a recurring theme). In addition, there is a very nice outdoor patio area out front facing the street, including a covered pergola table (again unexpected). Too cool for us to sit out there, but would definitely recommend it once it warms up.
Service: We were the only ones in the house, the waiter was attentive but not overly such. Not a very talkative guy so didn't get a lot of input from him, but he was certainly friendly and efficient.
Food: This place is known for their pizzas. But they also offer "exotic specials" which today was a purple yam and winter squash curry (really? in Patagonia?). This dish was tremendous. The curry wasn't too heavy, the veggies were done just right, the rice accompaniment was terrific. We also had the La Mariachi Blanco 10" pizza which was good in it's own right, but the curry dish won the day. The pizza toppings and sauce were creative and good, the crust was just okay but nothing special. So the pizza gets a 7, the curry dish gets a 10. Maybe they should shift more focus to the curry dishes!
Price: Two entrees and one beer came to about $30 with tip.
Final assessment: If you're in Patagonia anywhere near lunch or dinner time, stop by this place. You will not be disappointed. We were very pleasantly surprised that we found such a top notch place. Would definitely return and take friends!
