This is one of the most peaceful areas for camping and hiking. It is a little out of the way but well worth the time to get there.

Birders visiting Southern Arizona must visit Patagonia Lake State Park and stroll the birding trail at least once. Many of the Arizona specialties could be found here: blue herons, Clark’s grebe, ladder backed woodpecker, Black tailed gnatcatcher, yellow rump warbler, Townsend’s solitaire, Black throated gray and much more. The trail is easily navigated with some up hills, not wheelchair accessible.

Be sure to get a map and a bird list upon entering the park. Ask the Ranger where the bird trail is. Parking for the trail is a two minute drive past the RV campsites. Park at the trail head and be sure to check out the birdfeeders just a few feet on the trail. This is also a good spot to use your scope and view the ducks, grebes and other birds in the lake

There is a per car entrance fee: $20 on weekends and Holidays, $15 Monday through Friday. Be sure to check out eBird for recent sightings.

There were a very nice birding trail that provided a great place to view the lake from a high vantage point. We saw quite a variety of birds on the lake. The $20 entry fee is a lot to pay for a birding trail though.

We were disappointed that it cost $20 to get in and left without entering. We were touring the area and were only interested in an hour or so to stroll and bird watch. We visited other areas instead.

Stayed a few nights in late January 2019.
The Good: excellent RV sites; water; electricity; showers; restrooms; convenience store.
The Bad: only 1 dump station on way out of the park.
