Owner description: Tucked away in the rolling hills of southeastern Arizona is a hidden treasure.Patagonia Lake State Park was established in 1975 as a state park and is an ideal place to find whitetail deer roaming the hills and great blue herons walking the shoreline. The park offers a campground, beach, picnic area with ramadas, tables and grills, a creek trail, boat ramps, and a marina. The nearby Lakeside Market offers boat rentals and supplies. The campground overlooks the lake where anglers catch crappie, bass, bluegill, catfish, and trout. The park is popular for water skiing, fishing, camping, picnicking, and hiking. And the tracks of the New Mexico/Arizona railroad lie beneath the lake and remnants of the old historic line may be found at the Nature Conservancy in Patagonia. Hikers can stroll along the creek trail and see birds such as the canyon towhee, Inca dove, vermilion flycatcher, black vulture, and several species of hummingbirds.

Spent 3 nights camping. The area is nice but can be crowded. We rented a pontoon boat for a day and had a great time. The showers are clean and an easy walk from any campsite. There are some nice hiking trails and a small general store. Its a nice family camping location and experience.

First visit here and was very pleased to see the amenities available there. Beach, Camping, Boat Rental, Hiking, beautiful scenery both on the way to the lake and surrounding. Was very clean and although a bit crowded very peaceful.

For me, the best part of Patagonia Lake State Park was the drive - very scenic. It was a camping destination for me, and I prefer boonies and solitude, not being packed in like sardines :( The restroom/shower facility was nice. There is a bare minimal essentials "store" on site ... take everything you think you may need.

The park is great BUT when you use your boat you have to watch out for swimmers they are all over the lake and the park management do not care were they are swimming. I asked why they are not required to have a boat for safety and to show were they are in the water? We don't see were that should be required. So it is ok to run them over or kill them I guess. I was fishing at night and I heard a bump on the front of the boat and some one yell look out, yes it was 4 teens swimming out in the middle of the lake. Reported it to the ranger, he said you have to watch out for swimmers (you could not see any one in the water it was to dark) I told the ranger you have a swimming area why do you let them swim were the boat traffic is? Oh he said that the swim area is for little kids to swim but you can swim any were. Now this area I am talking about is not the main part of the lake, boats only go about 5 mh or less . On the main part of the lake were you can run at full power they are out there swimming also. They have rules at this park for every thing that will cost you money, my guess is safety is not a requirement due to the fact they can not sell it. Sooner or latter some one will die because of their lack of concern. So enjoy your boating and fishing, watch for the swimmers and if you take a dip stay close to your boat so other will know were you are
