“Just OK”
Reviewed July 4, 2014 via mobile

Unfortunately I think the hotel has gone down hill a bit. While this is still a lovely hotel, it's not what it used to be or what someone who is accustomed to 5 star hotels would come to expect. The grounds are no longer meticulously kept and our room was not completely clean upon arrival. It may be that it is summer and the staff is just cruising until busy season begins again. The spa is amazing as always but the rest of the hotel is just so so. I would pay summer rates here but wouldn't bother going back once full price rates are back in effect. We have stayed at the Montelucia about 8 times and this time was a bit of a disappointment. Staff not very attentive. More of a 4 star experience than 5.

Beautiful location, enchanting hotel with outstanding views of Camelback Mountain. The room was superior to most in the area. The bathroom was of a very hoigh quality and the bed was like sleeping in a cloud. Our porch opened up to the center of the grounds offering superb views of the mountain.

After staying at an Omni in Florida last year, The Montelucia seemed to be the perfect choice for a one night stay before our trip to the mountains. The resort is beautiful. We had brunch ($26 per person) at Prado. The food was good. The service was fair. We arrived early and let them know we were there. The young lady at the front desk informed us that our room was in the process of being cleaned and would be ready shortly. We told her we would explore the grounds while waiting. She asked for our cell phone number and said she would call us when our room was ready. I thought that was a great idea. An hour and a half later, no phone call, my husband went back to the front desk and our room was ready...we never received a call. Don't say you are going to do something if you aren't going to follow through. We were wanting a quiet, relaxing stay. It was quiet! That part was wonderful. Housekeeping needs to pay attention to actually cleaning the room though. There was a wad of long, black hair in the shower, the mirror by the bed had a hand print on it, the carpet was not the cleanest. The air in room 1125 did not work well. We hoped it would get cooler but it never did. We all, even my teenage daughter who is always cold, woke up several times sweating and very uncomfortable. The channels on the tv are limited (no HGTV!). We do not watch tv nor do we have cable or Dish at home so when we go on vacation we love to watch our favorite stations. It was just disappointing. There are too many resorts that are less inexpensive and nicer. At check out, I did express our concerns and they credited us the "resort" fee of $25. I guess that's something. Unlikely we would return or recommend.

My stay was Excellent, as it always is.... I look forward to returning. The Spa is one of the finest in the USA - Period Perfect weekend get-away. I visit this resort when ever I can. I always feel like i am on Vacation, when i only live down the street. This a bargain price in the Summer. Take advantage of the pricing

This was my third time staying at the Montelucia Resort and Spa. It is truly a stunning property in an amazing location. The Camelback Mountain is just minutes away and while lying out at the pool you feel as if you can almost reach out and touch it! It's such a gorgeous backdrop! I really love this hotel. The Joya Spa is as beautiful and luxurious as ever. Treatments are very pricey but worth it to spend the whole day lounging in the spa. I will say though that I was more impressed with the resort when it was run by The Intercontinental Hotel Group. I felt like service was better and it was a bit more upscale back then. This time I felt like the pool area needed a bit of work. The concrete around the pool was wearing away in spots and always left you walking around with bits of rock/debris on your feet. The Joya Spa pool had some serious bird issues and there was quite a bit of bird poop on the far ledge. That was really gross and left me surprised and disappointed. I also did not like the fact that they now charge for basic fitness classes like yoga. Last time I stayed all classes were free of charge. If you pay a resort fee those classes should be included. I also saw several interesting characters in the restaurant in the evenings (men with call girls) and around the pool during the day. That being said I will stay here again. There's something very special and unique about this property and the scenery around it. I just hope that a few improvements will be made.

Room Tip: The rooms around the adults only pool are quiet. When booking at the Spa do your homework and ask fo...

Great experience in Scottsdale. Service and amenities offered are the best in the area. I wold highly reccomend taking several days to enjoy all that the resort has to offer! The views are spectacular and the Sanish flair of the resort derives postcard snap shots from almost anywhere on th eproperty. The spa staff were awesome and was one of the nicest and most refreshing environments we have been to.

The Montelucia is a lovely place to stay. We had great food, and the room this time, although smaller than the ones we have had when we were here before, was very nice. Good food in the MBar. The pool was a bit crowded but that is to be expected on a hot weekend. The resort itself did not seem overcrowded. The grounds are beautiful
