I can't say enough nice things about the extraordinary service level at the Hermosa Inn. The front desk was extremely friendly and went out of their way to accomodate every request I had. Lon's was a beautiful experience too. The Chef was extremely gracious in accomodating my special diet request as well.

Loved the service. The rooms were comfortable, if not exceptional. And the pool area was small, but very quiet. Location can't be beat. Will be coming back.

This hacienda type hotel is extremely unique in every way. The grounds' gardens are bright and beautiful and impecably maintained. The rooms are relaxing and comfortable. The delicious flaky breakfast pastries are handmade on the premises!

The most unique aspect of this hotel is not found anywhere on the physical grounds though; instead it lies with the people who work at this wonderful place. I found all of them to be kind and caring in a very low key way, as though they were friends you had to come to visit. If you don't believe me, then call the front desk any weekday and talk to Frank. He will make you will feel very much at home even before you set foot on the grounds.

Thought this was really good. They had just refurbished the guest rooms (so previous comments about tired rooms may no longer be valid). Very well appointed rooms, decent bathrooms. Pool area very nice.

This is a small hotel, with a small hotel feel. Very friendly staff, but generally you're left to your own devices. We lounged by the pool all day - you can have lunch and drinks sent out from the restaurant. The pool and pool furniture were very nice - definitely a good spot to chill out.

The restaurant (Lons) is a big deal in Scottsdale and you'll probably need to book - it attracts a large crowd for dinner (locals as well as tourists). It's a great place and definitely worth it, but if you get bored and want to eat elsewhere you'll need to drive (Scottsdale isn't made for walking).

Overall, I'd strongly recommend this for anyone who wants some 5* luxury but can't stand big 100+ room hotels. This is very much a boutique hotel with an emphasis on understated luxury and is an ideal place to chill out after a regional tour.

Interestingly, all the other guests seemed to find something else to do during the day (some were on business - odd for such a resort type hotel). So we normally had the pool to ourselves.

We stayed at the Hermosa for three nights on our honeymoon. My wife and I don't really dig the sit-by-the-pool-and-sip-drinks kind of vacation, but we value privacy, a relaxing environment and good food. We also wanted a rustic, southwestern feel for this leg of our trip (we did the modern, luxurious spa thing in Sedona). Finally, we wanted a convenient jumping off point for some of our planned excursions into the Sonora desert. We found everything we were looking for here. We stayed in a casita room that the staff helped me pick based on our requirements when I was planning the trip. The room was beautiful. It was spacious and private and the rustic decor was understated and did not sacrifice comfort.

The staff was relaxed but helpful. I wound up needing a hospital on the day of our arrival. The staff quickly gave directions to my wife, and rescheduled our dinner reservation at Lon's that night for the next night. We did need to remind the staff the next night that we had reserved the Romantic Hideaway package, but this was likely forgotten due to the excitment surrounding our check-in and my hospital trip, and they quickly set things right. In all they were very accomodating (including turning the fireplace on for us when we requested, even though it was early in the season) and made our stay very comfortable.

The restaurant, Lon's, was wonderful - and we are rather picky New Yorkers. The waiter was attentive, the menu was creative, the food was excellent and sitting on the patio next to the wood fireplace was incredibly romantic. The free breakfasts were also fantastic. We were even able to have breakfast outdoors one day. This was not your standard free breakfast fare, either. Fresh pastries, a different hot meal each day, fresh fruit, yogurt, real bagels, good coffee and more were offered each day.

The Hermosa is a small botique hotel, not one of those 600 room resorts just down the road. There is not a lot to do there (no golf or tennis and nothing for the kiddies), but if you want an artistic, southwest feel with comfortable accomodations, privacy, and most of all a relaxing atmosphere, this is the place to stay in Scottsdale. And with so much to do in the surrounding area the tennis and golf were not missed; after a day of hiking and sightseeing it was a joy to come back to the comfort of the Hermosa.

We stayed one night at the Hermosa Inn following a visit to the Grand Canyon. We'd planned to spend our time there sipping cocktails and tanning by the pool, but thunderstorms but the kabosh on that. We ended up eating at the inn's restaurant, Lon's, and relaxing in our room. The atmosphere and service at Lon's were excellent; the food was good but the flavor didn't match the prices (although the bartender poured a mean Jack & Coke).

The inn is located in a quiet residential neighborhood; it has a pool area and a jacuzzi (the pool area is nice, but small). Our room was clean, quiet, and spacious, with a large, comfortable bed and a gas fireplace (although the bathroom was small). The grounds are well manicured and our porch had a view of a nicely landscaped courtyard.

The service was friendly, and the noon checkout was a big plus (as was the included continental breakfast). The Hermosa isn't the height of luxury, as other resorts in Scottsdale are rumored to be. For the same money, you may be able to find something equally or more luxurious in Phoenix (or maybe a good deal at one of the resorts), but the Hermosa is a perfectly pleasant place to stay.

We stayed at the Hermosa Inn in August and found it to be relaxing, beautiful and a perfect oasis away from the hustle and bustle of Scottsdale/Phoenix. It is located in an exclusive suburb (hop, skip and a jump away from all the action) with stunning views of Camelback mountain. It feels like a true hideaway.
Frommer's described it perfectly in saying that this is a hotel that gives you a sense of place, of being in the desert and in the wild west. Why travel if this isn't your objective?
The food at the restaurant (Lon's) was first rate. We went for lunches which were a bargain for such gourmet offerings. Fry bread BBQ tacos with amazing salad. Beef tenderloin. Happy hour with ice cold lemonade vodka drinks.
The room wasn't large but it was plush and pleasant. We stayed in the most reasonable accomodations. Turn down service was a plus and included freshmade cookies. Breakfast is also included and consists of fresh berries, melon, granola, eggs, bacon, juice, bagels etc. Good!
The pool is not large but is pretty and has comfy lounge chairs all around it. The gorgeous gardens and plant life on the property is what makes it so special. Very exotic and well maintained. On the whole, we really loved the experience of staying there. You never run into anyone who is staying there except at breakfast or at Lon's. It feels like a private sanctuary!

From the moment we arrived, we fell in love with the Hermosa Inn. From the desert landscaping to the warmth of the room, we knew this wasn't the run of the mill hotel. The turn-down service with fresh-baked cookies, friendly staff, and homey atmosphere all made for an amazing stay. We ordered room service from Lon's restaurant and had the absolute best asparagus either of us have ever tasted. The dinner was outstanding, and the service and attention to detail made for an exquisite experience. Any time I return to the Phoenix area, I will not stay anywhere else!

Ranked among the top hotels in the Southwest, the AAA Four Diamond Hermosa Inn is a jewel of a hideaway surrounded by an exclusive neighborhood in Paradise Valley, and minutes from Scottsdale and its many attractions. Handcrafted in the 1930s by cowboy artist Lon Megargee as his residence and art studio, the Inn's adobe architecture has kept its "authentic Arizona" character and charm. The 43 newly renovated guest casitas are nestled in a garden setting with breathtaking vistas of the lush desert and Camelback Mountain. Accommodations reflect the southwestern design of the original Casa Hermosa (beautiful house) and most include deep soaking tubs, beehive fireplaces and private patios. The culinary centerpiece is LON's at the Hermosa, a AAA Four Diamond restaurant with a Best of Award of Excellence from Wine Spectator serving globally inspired Arizona fare. The restaurant is complemented by a subterranean wine cellar, a celebrated outdoor dining patio, and its bar and casual dining counterpart LON's Last Drop, named after one of Megargee's iconic paintings, many of which are displayed throughout the resort. ... more   less
