My husband and I stayed at the Hermosa Inn as a get away for our anniversay, it was absolutely wonderful! The rooms are beautifully decorated and very comfortable and clean. The staff was friendly and helpful. Though the property was booked, the only people we saw were at the desk and the gentleman who brought us a vase for our flowers. We sat on our patio and enjoyed a gorgeous October evening in Phoenix. Absolutely delightful!!

Tired of giant cookie-cutter resort hotels overrun with other people's children and boors talking on cell phones? Go to the Hermosa Inn in Paradise Valley, near Camelback Mountain. Miraculously, the Hermosa actually looks and feels like it's in the desert; now there's an idea! OK, it's a very NICE, romantic desert, but still...Most resorts in the Phoenix/Scottsdale area, even really pricey ones, seem to have been designed and lanscaped for any ol' warm-weather climate: Hawaii, Orlando, whatever. The Hermosa is the real deal: the main building used to be the residence and studio of Lon Megargee, a noted painter of "Western" (cowboy) art; it now houses Lon's Restaurant (very lovely and popular and good, although I think the food's not quite as fabulous as it was several years ago). All of the buildings are set amid a lush desert garden. The guest rooms, suites and casitas are all individually decorated in stylishly rustic Southwestern mode, yet have HDTV, hi-speed Internet, and so on. Breakfast on your private patio, lounge by the pool all afternoon and drink in the view of the nearby mountains, walk around the (exclusive) neighborhood -- it's all good. And there's absolutely nothing for children to do here -- no waterslide, game room, etc. -- so it tends to be devoid of the little darlings. Aww. The only blemishes on an otherwise perfect experience are that the staff sometimes have to be asked to do things that should be done automatically (like cleaning the pool the day after a storm filled it with leaves), and minor maintenance lapses. That aside, the Hermosa offers a rare and tranquil retreat in the Sonoran desert, even in the broiling midsummer heat.

Spent a relaxing five days here--just the two of us. There's nothing for kids, so it's the perfect romantic getaway spot, whether you like walks in the desert or lying by the pool with a good book. The big resorts all feature huge pools with slides, and lots of noise and splashing. Go there if you like action. I agree that there are a few small details the staff occasionally ignores, but it's a small price to pay for this ambience. A caveat: Lon's is excellent--IF you like meat, meat, meat.

The best part of this hotel is privacy. It was sold out but i saw very few people. It was very quiet. I felt like I was alone in the desert. I also liked the beds. They were very cozy. It was very peaceful. More like staying at a guest house instead of a hotel. What could change? Some employees from the restaurant on site/room service seemed that they did not like their job or that they were too rushed or understaffed to do a good job. Almost like the restaurant was their priority and the hotel guest were secondary. The restaurant is a popular one. Also, several times we called for certain needs and we had to call again as no one came. But in the end I overlooked these flaws as the charm of the hotel won me over. This hotel is a diamond in the rough with a lot of potential.

The Hermosa Inn is a wonderful place to stay in Phoenix. It sits a few blocks from Camelback Mountain in Paradise Valley. The Inn offers a selection of rooms in a beautifully landscaped setting. Privacy abounds. The Hermosa also offers a relaxing pool. Set in a residential neighborhood, there is no traffic at this retreat. It is conveniently located between downtown Phoenix and Scottsdale. Access to other areas of the metro area make this a perfect place. The Hermosa has a first-class restaurant, Lon's, on site. The restaurant is actually the centerpiece for the Hermosa. It was once the home for the original owner of this estate. The staff is committed to service without intruding on privacy. There is nightly turn-down service, an enjoyable continental breakfast that can be eaten in the restaurant or on the room's private patio, and in-room amenities such as CD player, VCR, and beehive gas fireplace. You can't go wrong at the Hermosa Inn.

Stayed at the Hermosa in the Fall of 2002

An excellent hotel with some wonderful accommodations spoiled by the hotel management allowing dogs in the swimming pool despite a clear notice poolside prohibiting it. I love dogs but not in the pool. Seemed to be a matter of casual indifference when raised with desk staff.

Official Description (provided by the hotel):
Ranked among the top hotels in the Southwest, the AAA Four Diamond Hermosa Inn is a jewel of a hideaway surrounded by an exclusive neighborhood in Paradise Valley, and minutes from Scottsdale and its many attractions. Handcrafted in the 1930s by cowboy artist Lon Megargee as his residence and art studio, the Inn's adobe architecture has kept its "authentic Arizona" character and charm. The 43 newly renovated guest casitas are nestled in a garden setting with breathtaking vistas of the lush desert and Camelback Mountain. Accommodations reflect the southwestern design of the original Casa Hermosa (beautiful house) and most include deep soaking tubs, beehive fireplaces and private patios. The culinary centerpiece is LON's at the Hermosa, a AAA Four Diamond restaurant with a Best of Award of Excellence from Wine Spectator serving globally inspired Arizona fare. The restaurant is complemented by a subterranean wine cellar, a celebrated outdoor dining patio, and its bar and casual dining counterpart LON's Last Drop, named after one of Megargee's iconic paintings, many of which are displayed throughout the resort. ... more   less
