“Outstanding program”
Reviewed November 8, 2013 via mobile

This astronomy program is well worth the $60/person fee. I learned far more than I imagined and it made me curious for more. I will try to visit Skycenter the next time I am in Tucson. I am hooked!

A fantastic evening for all ages. The drive up is gorgeous, the telescope and star viewing are amazing and the observatory staff love sharing their passion for the universe. Dress warmly and you will never forget this night.

“Worth twice the price of admission.”
Reviewed October 17, 2013 via mobile

Unbelievable experience. Looking through a 32 inch scope was remarkable. Photos are great but seeing things with your own eyes is remarkable.
Just remember to dress warmly. The thermometer said 39 but it felt like 20.

“A beautiful mountain drive and astronomy!”
Reviewed September 10, 2013

What an evening! My wife and I have been amateur astronomers for about 10 years, and have always wanted to observe the skies from a mountaintop observatory. Here was our chance! Driving up Mount Lemmon from Tucson is a real treat, with pull-outs available to enjoy the beautiful vistas. Adam Block, our host, presented astronomy to a group of about 10 people. He showed us the 32 inch Schulman Ritchey-Cretien telescope inside the observatory dome, then led us to a classroom setting. There, he continued with an informative lecture on the basics of astronomy and observing, while we all enjoyed a generous dinner of sandwiches and snacks.

For the evening observing, Adam lent each person a star chart, red flashlight, and high-quality binoculars. He continued with a leisurely tour of the sky, pointing out stars, contellations, and deep-sky objects. Finally, we entered the observatory and enjoyed jaw-dropping views of celetial objects through the large Schulman telescope.

This trip to Mount Lemmon would be followed two days later by a drive up to Kitt Peak for even more astronomy. Truly a memorable experience. If you are visiting Tucson and have an interest in astronomy, Mount Lemmon SkyCenter is a must-see. For the drive up, the program, then the drive down the mountain, plan about 10 hours total. Although dinner is provided, if you are leaving in the early afternoon, plan on bringing snacks or sandwiches to eat as you take your time up the mountain. And bring a heavy jacket, even in the summer.
