Lalomanu is just beautiful no matter where you stay. Taufua staff are lovely and food is good. It's open usually quite late which is nice. Meals are included in your stay which is awesome as their are not many other places to eat. Definitely come out this way if you just want to spend all day in the sea and don't need to get out of your togs for the whole stay :)

Because there had been a cyclone the week before, there was no power or running water for the first couple of days. However, the toilets not cleaned often enough, so it was quite rank. I was booked into (and paid for) a mountain room but was put in the beach fale - and no credit was given for the difference in price. If you are a vegetarian like me, bring protein powder with you! A no-protein, carbohydrate-rich diet is really unhealthy! They don't really cater for non-vegetarians although the chef did his best, but at 30 ST a dinner, it was expensive. If you are after traditional Samoan food, you won't find it here. The people are friendly and accommodating - a knee injury stops me sleeping on the floor, so a bed was put into my fale (they'd been removed because of the cyclone). Generally speaking, if you like snorkelling (bring your own gear), sea and sand, this is the place for you - otherwise, a couple of days would be enough.

Room Tip: Fales 2-4 are enclosed and have fans.

This place is so cool. The food is AMAZE-BALLZ! It was the best food I had on the island, better than Aggie Grey's.

We stayed in an open fale. It's so worth going for the open fale, we had booked a closed and switched to an open when we got there. You get a really nice breeze at night in the open fale and open is beach front while closed is second row.
The beach is stunning, crystal clear waters, the reef's fairly abundant with sea life too.

The tarpaulins are quite fiddly but you get used to it. The flapping edge of the tarpaulin drove me pretty crazy, woke me a few times.

The guys there were so funny, kept us entertained for hours in the evenings...single ladies, watch out! be prepared to be hit on :P it happens all over samoa! One boy ran along-side our car smooching in the village as we approached lalomanu!

The Fiafia was pretty fantastic, there were fewer people in this one than at the Aggies one, and everyone really brags about the Aggies one, but I have to say this one didn't trail by much. I thoroughy enjoyed this one (the boys were lookers at this one haha)

Make sure you get to To Sua Ocean Trench near Lalomanu

Room Tip: Go for an open fale. If it's safety your're worried about, the place is so isolated there...

1. Bathrooms are quite far away from the fales and there was only one shower that worked properly. This is a nuisance and really dampened my stay.
2. Closed fales are ok, but are right on a road. So you will be woken up several times per night by trucks and cars zooming past. Also the locals tend to beep their horns all the time, so it's not really a place for peace and quiet.
3. Food was ok. Typical island food, so nothing too amazing. Lots of deep fried food!!!
4. The beach is ok, it's not amazing to play in, at low tide relaxing in the water is ok. The reef is completely destroyed from the tsunami, so I suggest going somewhere else for snorkeling.

Overall, I was actually a little disappointed with this place. I didn't get the family welcoming feel that other people got and I honestly was very much over it after the second night.

The locals also hang out there alot and at 11pm at night would sit and play ukelele and sing... it's quite frustrating when you're trying to sleep.

Side note: I was 18 weeks pregnant when we stayed here. Samoa is great for a baby moon, but I highly suggest you do not choose beach fales and stick to western style accommodation.

Room Tip: Either way you're not going to sleep, if you're in a closed fale the road will keep you awak...

We wanted to experience the true flavour of Samoa and Taufua met that expectation.

A great blend of accomodation into nature, good, plentiful food and lovely people. We stayed in the open fale and it was perfect for us nature lovers.

The people are lovely, staff and guests. There's a real community feel here - unlike some other beach fales we experienced in Upolu where the village and the resorts clearly don't get along (le valasis beach resort is one of these places that comes to mind....avoid avoid!).

The beach at lalomanu is simply gorgeous and perfect to just relax in the sand for a few days.

Don't come here expcting western world plushness but hey, that's not why WE travel to places like Samoa. Fiafia night was great.

Room Tip: Open fales for more of the cool evening breeze

This place is magical. Right on the beach. The view is stunning! The perfect place to wake up, it's like paradise. My girlfriend and I loved it. The staff are really helpful and friendly. It's really good value for money and has a super charming feel to it.

If you love the beach and ocean on your doorstep and you dont mind a kind of camping theme then this is the place for you. This is my second time at Taufua, the first was before the tsunami and i wanted to have a look at the rebuild to see if it had the same atmosphere and i can honestly say it hasnt lost any of its charm. The fales are comfortable the staff are lovely the breakfast and dinner arrangement makes you mingle and get to know some very interesting people from all over the world. The sunsets are beautiful and the sun and sea are to die for. Amazing amazing holiday.
