The beach was worthwhile, and the fales are basic but adequate but the long table dining was not a pleasant experience. The food is good, but you have to be quick and eat quick or you'll miss out.
The male shared bathroom wasn't always clean... bring your own hand soap!

We visited in April 2012. It was one of the ports of call of the MS Volendam during a cruise from Sydney to Vancouver
What a surprise ! It was advertised as just a bus tour to a beach - wear your swimmerstake everything you need.
On arrival we were met by The local family who put on a demo of shucking coconuts and given samples of local fruit and coconut milk. Contrary to what we had been led to believe there were toilets, showers and change rooms. We had an hour and a half to swim and could use the fales for shade.
On the way back we stopped at the waterfall where there was a demonstration of cooking on hot stones and were sampled the pig they had just cooked.
If your cruise ship stops their take this tour. Reasonable priced.

Room Tip: Just do it.if your cruise ship stops in Apia

I stayed in a beach fale at Taufua and got a discount because they found some else to share my fale with (90 tala instead of 120). As I was traveling on a tight budget I decided to move to the next place the following day (fao Fao beach fales,, 70 tala for a private fale incl. meals). I liked Fao Fao more becasue the fales had traditional blinds instead of the plastic ones (they make it more hot during the night and make a lot of noise flapping in the wind). The fia fia evening at Taufua was also a bit too 'disco' and loud for my taste, but still very enjoyable. The dancers were very very good! What upset me the most is that when I was waiting for my free pick up from the fao fao beach fales host, they sent him away claiming not to know where I was, although I was sitting right in the common area all the time. I ended up taking a taxi that charged me double the normal price. I had the feeling they were annoyed that I was leaving because I wanted a cheaper place, and tried to sabotage. This is just a feeling, and I met a lot of people who enjoyed their stay at Taufua, and even return many times.

you will find this place to be the best value for money with consistent quality food. the prices are reasonable, the fales are clean, the staff is some of the best in samoa. The beach itself is beautiful.
You can go all around the island looking for great places to stay, chances are you'll wish you just stayed here.

Only potential drawback is forced group meals. We liked it, but if your looking for romantic meals with your partner you won't find it here.

returned once again with ex colleagues who organized a farewell and birthday bash. as always, the place and food were amazing. dinner was a beautiful mix of western and island dishes. portions were a plenty. as it was a group night out, it could not be avoided that noise would not be made. i have to admit that a few were drunk and their less to be desired personalities came out, however, the way the group was treated the day after was uncalled for. we were not invited to have breakfast with the rest of the guests, we were to be served separately and after everyone had eaten. to top it all off, an apology supposedly on the group's behalf was made publicly in front of everyone. for a supposedly "not party place", this resort hosts a lot of school groups and young volunteer groups out for a beach party. or, was it just because our group was mostly composed of locals....... as a travel professional, i beleive there are ways of handling the resort's "discomfort and /or discontent" in ways that would not be at the expense or offensive to any group. anyone after that experience would have felt being treated like second class citizens. i guess, everyone learned from this trip, or at least i would hope.

would i still recommend the place - yes, but not for groups wanting to have fun and defintetly not to locals. quite sad actually.

Lalomanu is a beautiful place and the people are so friendly. You won't go hungry at Taufua Beach Fales. We stayed in the open beach front fales only metres from the water - you have to get used to the roar of the waves when you sleep at night! If you have the chance go on the village tour and have lunch with the family in the village. Truly a unique experience.
