Have just returned from a week at Insel Fehman. The first night was on the ground floor and so we had no privacy or cross flow of air. Moved upstairs, much better and better beds, a bit more expensive but worth it.
It is a no frills place but only a 5 tala ,trip from town or a free drop off every hour.
There is a great pizza place over the road and yacht club is a great spot for dinner and a 7 tala taxi ride away.
We drank champaign each night as it was half the price of wine.
They have the local news paper which is a great read and high speed internet for guest use.

Making a reservation was a breeze online.
We found the staff (including the guys carrying bags upstairs) to be very respectful and helpful.
The restaurant food was good and nicely presented, breakfast was the best deal of the day.
The rooms were what one would expect for the price.
When compared to the most "well known" hotel it was a bargain.
Shuttle into town every hour was great.
About the only thing not up to standard was the TV remote not working but Geeeez who cares about that.

Overall quite a boring hotel, TV very boring with just 2 channels not that your on hols for tv, b/fast very plain & evening meals were ok if you chose to eat at the hotel. To walk to the town centre would take approx 40 min's, great small local cinema, very few shops in town & mostly catering for the tourists & price ! Hired a car and after a few days we had a slight problem with the vehicle & the hire company changed the vehicle without any fuss. we would drive around the Island everyday & stop in different parts & explore the local culture. A very relaxing & quiet destination [ never ask for a bus time table they will just look at you ] remember it's island time and walk slow, went on some local tours especially the local Island. Overall we had a great time in Samoa, our only down fall we should of only stayed for 10 nights, we felt 17 nights was to long!

Stayed at Insel for a total of 6 nights with my family and fiance. We only chose Insel because they were running a half price special at the time, which was great. The rooms were very much like a New Zealand motel...ugly brick walls, dated furniture, crappy tv, tiny and ugly bathroom.

Service was varied...front desk had one very grumpy woman working there for half our stay and one very professional and friendly woman the other. The bellboys were kinda lazy...when we arrived with all our bags...only one of them moved and helped carry stuff up the 2 flights of concrete stairs (no elevators). We stayed at Aggie Grey's 2 years ago and the bell boys would absolutely NOT allow you to carry any bags, they were so helpful and hardworking....not the case here at Insel.

WORST part of the story...when we checked out of one of our rooms on our last day to move into one room (wtih which we had a late check out) just to keep our bags etc...we accidentally misplaced our cellphone. We searched far and wide and eventually figured that we may have left it in our room that we had checked out of that morning. We rang front desk to report the phone missing and to ask if housekeeping had found it as we had seen them doing up our room after we left it. Housekeeping stopped by 5 mins later to announce that "nothing had been found." We found that strange because although we weren't sure about the phone, we knew for sure that there were toiletries and a pair of shorts that we had intentionally left behind as we did not want them. We went down to front desk to ask to look for the phone in the room ourselves. The woman at front desk was surprised at the request but reassured us we wouldnt find anything as housekeeping staff has already looked... When we got to the room we found the toiletries and the cellphone carefully wrapped up in the pair of shorts in a cupboard which was conveniently jammed behind the bed....

We didnt press the matter any further...we were just relieved to have our phone back!

Oh and the restaurant....we ordered dinner there one night and waited well over an hour despite being the only patrons of the restaurant! One of the seafood meals was sent back and the mashed potato was disgusting! Steak was BEAUTIFUL!

One BIG upside - FREE BUFFET BREAKFAST!!!

2nd big upside - Its directly across the road from Giordanos Pizzeria~ That place is awesome!

All in all I would recommend Insel for a cheaper, no frills option.
