“Big Rooms but no soul”
Reviewed January 7, 2014

Having done a lot of trips to Apia and usually having stayed at Aggie's one trip I was put up here for some reason. The hotel is fine but is rather a nothing, just a room. The rooms are nice and big and clean but the rest of the place is rather a nothing.

I had the pleasure of staying here second week of December 2013, from the bell hops to the breakfast staff to front office great hospitality and giving us a ‘home’ away from home.
The ability to self cater is a plus for the business traveller or families who want the option. The Serenity Day Spa and Lucy are just pure bliss! Have to mention Christina is a fantastic host always ensuring guests accommodated for etc. The rooms spacious, kitchens great to have, aircon and fans excellent, beds are comfy, the bathrooms are small but we were on holiday and werent planning on spending much time in the bathroom! The extra touches, I was really impressed by the door men, for example, free water bottles provided everyday, and whilst sitting on my verandah on the third floor when it was raining hard, as guests pulled up to the carpark straight away the guys were there at the car with umbrellas for the guests. Its those little extras that go along way.

I look forward to booking again soon on next trip to samoa.

Room Tip: Higher floors have ocean views.

We stayed here for the first 8 days in Dec 2013. We have stayed here before and were in the garden rooms for those stays, they were ok for what we wanted so i booked for the same but when we arrived we were pleasantly surprised to learn we had been upgraded to the 3rd floor, executive suite which was lovely. Basically the same layout but the beds were both queen, a much newer air conditioning unit and views were spectacular!. We had our 1 and 3 yr old with us so I was so careful with them out on the balcony but during the nights when the kids were sleeping it was magic to sit and watch the sunset at nights with a cold drink. Staff as always were very accommodating however there was an incident during our stay regarding a request that wasn't handled very well but after talking to a manager and the lovely Christine, the misunderstanding was sorted with many apologies. We were also so happy to have been given a late check out because our flight didn't leave till 10:40pm that night we were able to stay in our rooms till we caught out taxi for the airport at around 7:30 so an extra day for FREE...thank you again Insel for a wonderful stay and I look forward to staying with you again soon....Taina n whanau...xoxox

Room Tip: thirst level rooms have a great view but stairs can get abit tiring after awhile

The longest I have ever stayed in a hotel (5days) and every bit was a pleasure. The most important part was service, you can find more expensive hotels in Apia but it is unlikely you will find one with as higher standards of service. Everything is possible and nothing is a problem. Every employee is happy to see you no matter the weather and will go out of their way to make your Samoan experience more pleasurable. We did suffer a small hiccup with air conditioning for example only to have it fixed by the time we were back in our room. We also had to check out on the last day 10 hours before our flight, when we returned later in the day to access our bags a free room was given to us, as was access to all hotel services. It completely transformed a hot and exasperated day. I would definitely recommend this hotel, in addition to its service the location is excellent and the food delicious. Thank you for contributing so well to a lovely stay in Samoa

We stayed in November 2013, the garden room on ground floor was spacious, however, disappointed it wasn't as clean and updated, there was no bottled water or milk in fridge on our arrival, there were ants in the kitchen, on the bench tops and in the bathroom, they need new bath towels, the bathroom was always flooded because there was no drainage, I especially cant stand the toilet, its very old fashion and is always blocked, they need to update the toilets and provide better toilet paper. The beds were not too comfortable either, but we manage. The air conditioner was great. Daily breakfast was enjoyable and the pool was clean. Most staff were friendly, but the reception and waiting area needs to be extended, we found it to be too crowded at times trying to go in and out of the hotel. I would stay again if they pest treated and renovate the place.

Room Tip: Not sure which room would be good, but staying in the middle of everything is advisable.

Had a package deal which meant we had to stay one night at each end of our Savaii holiday.
Was not impressed with the restaurant, the food choices are limited and often not available, once they only brought out one meal for my partner & forgot about mine!
We found the rooms dirty & very outdated. No clock, no toiletries which we expected at a hotel. The air conditioning was extremely noisy. The tv was a small very old one, it is nice to be able to watch abit of tv at night times but it just was not good at all.
Heaps of cockroaches too. The kitchenette was bad, I would never have prepared food in there. I opened the fridge door & cockroaches came running from somewhere there.
The staff were lovely and very helpful though I have to say, nothing too much trouble.
The transfers from the airport were good & the free shuttle into town was also good, no problems there.
Overall we could not wait to leave the hotel.

Room Tip: Not sure, we stayed in 2 different ones on the ground floor & both were as bad.

This was our 2nd stay at the Insel Fehmarn and we will stay there again. We love the location but mainly it is Christine and her team of professional and friendly staff. They are very accommodating and nothing is a problem. We like the location, a cheap taxi or bus ride to town and there is a fantastic Italian restaurant across the road and an amazing massage place outside the gate The rooms are average but they have every thing you need including a kitchen. Great for families.
