Happy we got to see it as it was a public holiday in Samoa. They are usually closed on public holidays but there was a cruise liner in Samoa at the time. Staff were great. Beautiful grounds. Friendly staff

I was the only one there on a Saturday. The gift shop is excellent for books and souvenirs. Because I was the only one, I had a private guide who was very informative of the life and history of RLS. This is also a good place to get postcards and stamps.

For 20tala entry fee per person; given the hype I read about it, very Non eventful, short, really nothing much to see. Not my cup of tea

Our childhood was filled with the joys of reading books by Robert Louis Stevenson. It was so nice to take the guided tour through this magnificent mansion. The young man who told us about each of the rooms was very knowledgeable and made the experience very enjoyable. It is lovely to see the old smoking room with the fire place to no where which was just built in order to remind Robert of his Scottish homeland. It is just such a shame that he passed away so early no being able to fully enjoy his new paradise.
You can walk up to the top of the mountain where he is buried which gives you great views over Apia and the harbour. We had a walk through the lovely forest near the home and down to the creek which unfortunately wasn't flowing at the time.

Lovely old refurbished colonial building set in beautiful gardens, rich with stories of Robert Louis Stevenson's shortish stay here. Not sure he deserved the enormous reverence with which he is remembered by the locals, but that's another story. It's definately well worth a visit and was great to have such an informative and delightful guide. And her beautiful voice brought tears to my eyes as she sang Stevenson's epitaph "....home is the sailor home from the sea....".

If you want to walk to his gravesite up the hill, just make sure you have good walking shoes and choose the coolest time of the day.
