“Great place to visit”
Reviewed November 5, 2012

Big ups to the articulate and knowledgeable guides. They were obviously very familiar with and passionate about their work and really made the experience more than just a tour of an old house. my children were fascinated by the artifacts in each room & stories associated with them. For some reason they were particularly taken with RLS's safe...go figure! But a great time had by all.

“Colonial Samoan History”
Reviewed November 5, 2012

This is worth a visit, beautifull gardens, an amazing house to tour with many origional things ( the guides are great) you can really imagine living a century ago. Also the walk up to the top of Mount Vai starts from the gardens. RLS's Mausoleum is on the very peak of the mount, his body carried up there by the villagers. fab views over Apia, 2 grades of climb, be fairly fit, and go early in the morning to be cooler!

“Great story!”
Reviewed November 4, 2012

Beautiful grounds. Cool mansion with great story behind it! A guide took us upstairs through the first rooms and then left us to explore where we liked. Very informative displays of antique items. Cool carving out on side verandah telling the story of how one local chief ended cannibalism! We didnt climb the hill, just walked through the forest a while which was lovely and cool!

“TEST OF ENDURANCE”
Reviewed October 31, 2012

There are x2 path ways, longer way is the windy path. The shorter climb is a stteep climb up some rocks and boulders. Should take about 30mins. Longer path took us an hour! A little disappointed with the maintenance and appearance of the tomb stone of RLS. The surrounding trees could be chopped down and a garden and chairs may be built for resting ... especially after a strenous climb.
