Thanks a lot to the whole Outrigger Team for being so friendly und kind. You really made our stay in samoa special. Fa'a Samoa (thats the way of life)
The rooms are very cozy and tidy and were always decorated with the beautiful flowers from the garden.
We also enjoyed the beautiful tropical breakfast and it was always nice - seen the happy and friendly staff in the morning.
Special thanks also to Tulele for the great Taro-recipe!
Fa'afetai - Thank you!

The Outrigger provides a cozy friendly atmosphere and we truly enjoyed our stay there. After a few days you get to know the staff who are doing an amazing job. One day they helped us cook some local food (Taro). Couldnt say anything bad about this place, simply a GREAT experience. If you are looking for a 5 star hotel this is not the place, but for a budget hotel, I would say this is; top of the line.

Travelling with 2 children is not always easy. But at the Samoan Outrigger we felt relaxed. The thick green hedge of red hibiscus around the hotel and the tropical garden space makes it comfortable and easy for the kids to run around. Waking up with breakfast waiting for you is great, and the rooms are comfortable. The staff are lovely and always helpful - they managed to teach me a bit of Samoan as well. We loved the the pool - refreshing in the hot climate. We found the Outrigger to be a great little budget hotel and and we had a wonderful time there. The owners are experienced and know Samoa well - they were very helpful with advice on how to get around and find the best places to go.

I did stay from the 1 until the 18 of august 2011in Samoa and the most time at the Samoan Outrigger in Apia. From there i did make daily trips with their rental motorbike around the island, did visit often the downtown area of Apia and relaxed several days at their lovely garden and had a swim at the pool. Did sleep in one of their fale's in the garden and did cook often some food at the public kitchen. It's a place where most guest's meet and great and even hang out with each other or go together for day trips.
I did also choose the place because it's not in the center of town, it's a 15 minute walk away from all the important sights in town, what i did like. Near buy is one of the better supermarkets, as well the two best italien restaurants, a gym, as well a spa, two gas stations and the best liquor store in town. When i was there, there where a lot of medical students, regular tourists, honeymooners and also guests with a professional job background.
So it's sometimes a lively place, what i liked as well. It's a place that has a lot of character, like the owner and his entire crew...i belive therefore it's a perfect place for travelers like me. I did read some of the other reviews and it's sometime thru that the dogs bark, that the ambulance drives buy with the horn on from the near hospital and there is no hot water or it can get hot in the room..so what? It's Samoa, it's far away from where we all come and i'm glad it's not like home. It's a perfect Home away from Home.
Thanx to the people from the Samoan Outrigger, those who stay there and the Samoan people who live around that area with their cars, children and dogs and the wonderful sun that shines every day :-)

The Outrigger was an excellent choice for us as two female medical students looking for a reasonably priced home from home that was close to the hospital and had a swimming pool. The Outrigger ticked all of these boxes. We were welcomed from arrival and the staff really made the effort to get to know us and check we were always OK. This is especially important when staying somewhere for a long time. Breakfasts were lovely every day with fresh fruit and toast/bread, even pancakes some days. The communal kitchen was always clean and available to use, although could do with some new equipment. We were, however, able to cook there most days of our month-long stay. Our room did not have air-con but we had a fan and this presented no problem. The pool was always there to cool us off and the gardens were perfect for relaxing after a hard day at the local hospital. The hospital is a ten-minute walk away and the centre of the town is not much further, although taxis are so cheap to get into the centre of Apia.
The best thing about The Outrigger was the security we felt staying there. The staff really kept an eye on us and Claus was so helpful and friendly. He even showed us a few of the best places on the island which was one of the most memorable experiences of our entire two-month trip. We also hired a car from him which was reasonable and very reliable with the added security of knowing we could contact Claus if we had any problems. The reception staff will help you out with booking taxis and even other hotels round the island. Internet is also available and you can buy drinks anytime.
Would thoroughly recommend The Outrigger both to elective students and also travellers. It is a lovely building with lots of character and provided us with the true Samoan experience. We both hope to return one day and show our families a taste of Samoan/Dutch hospitality. Thank you Claus and team!
