We spent our last night in Samoa at Taumesina Hideaway & loved it. A great haven from the hustle & bustle of nearby Apia - although the dogs & roosters made for an early awakening! Great breakfast treat. Wonderful self-contained cottages & very special dining area. Sara went out of her way to transport us back to the centre of Apia to catch a bus to the Airport. We just hope this special refuge doesn't get ruined by nearby resort proposals!! A+++++

Taumesina Hideaway is the best home that you can get in Apia, and Sara and Masi (and Cecilia and Sarona) are the best family you can have while you are away from home.
The place is just great – and other travelers already mentioned how cosy and comfortable the fales are, so we are not going to repeat all of it – and, in our experience, it was the warming welcome and all the little things that make us feel home that really make the difference to other places.
We really felt it, as we arrived in Samoa in a late friday night, and get injured in the first day we spent in Samoa. As we were trying to reach Palolo Deep (not far from there), I had a deep cut in my left foot and Sara was always there for everything that we need.
For those who are traveling for long time, like our family does, it is quite distinctive to feel all that warm. Sara took us to a hospital, to a private doctor, gave us precious informations about traveling around the country, opened all her doors, and even invited us to the birthday of her 13- years old daughter.
We booked at first only 4 nights (thinking that could be the major gateway to reach all the attractions in Apia), but ended to stay longer. And decided to came back earlier, before flying out of Samoa. Because it is a good place to be.
Thank you, Sara and Masi and all your beautiful family. We had a great time. We will strongly recommend Taumesina Hideaway to everyone who wants to visit Samoa.

We stayed with Sara and Masi for 2 nights when we arrive and 1 night before we leave. They are lovely people, they shouted pizza for all as it was their daughter Cecilias birthday. David had a few drinks with the men and really enjoyed their company. The breakfast is very nice and the lagoon makes it a lovely spot. The roosters and dogs can be noisy at night just like home. We stayed in the fales but on our final night Sara put us in a little unit with no extra charge. We hope to visit and catch up with the family again.

My wife & I have just returned from a most enjoyable stay with Sara & Masi at this small, quiet (for Apia, with it's many dogs & roosters), seemingly isolated Oasis just a few Km's from the center of town.
We planned on staying 4 nights but ended up staying 6. Were going to stay in a fale at Lalomanu, but pleased we didn't, even tho they have beautiful beaches, as they are crowded together, have shared facilities, little privacy & lots of people. Also cost more!
The main fales at Taumesina ( there are only 4 of these) are like self contained cabins at a NZ campground. They contain a frig., hotplate, tea making facilities (we were provided a full liter of milk, not the stupid tiny serves one gets in a motel), own toilet & shower (cold- I hate cold showers, but in the heat even I got used to it.) Soap is provided but you may like to take your own, (also shampoo). Also has a ceiling fan & lots of louvre windows & a TV.
Dining area is right on the edge of a lagoon that is very safe for swimming in. Masi (The husband) is in the process of building a jetty out over the water that will make it even nicer. The breakfast consisted of a lg. slice of Paw Paw, 2 bananas, toast, & 2 eggs. (scrambled, fried, as omelet or boiled with ham & cheese toasties & one day, french toast.) It's a lg. breakfast & a couple of times were even offered more.
Several times they provided a ride into town for us freely, when it suited us. It seemed as if we were part of their family & it was so refreshing, as most places in the Island seem only in it for the money. We never got that feeling here.
On our last day we didn't have to be at the Airport until midnight, but Sara Happily let us stay as long as we wanted to swim, rest, freshen up etc.
All of this only cost us 140 Tala per night. If you want even cheaper, there are 3 or 4 basic fales right on the edge of the lagoon, & I think these are only 50 tala p/n. These have shared facilities that have just been built.
Sara has only been running these for about 4 years, hence relatively unknown, but with the attitude they show & the positive feedback they receive I don't think it will be long before one finds it hard to get a booking.
P.S. Not the easiest to find, but just past Apia Park is a signpost on the left, go down that rd. then turn left at the fork, a little way down a rough rd. & it's on the left.

Room Tip: No. 4 is good as no one has to walk past it.

Hi - I am writing this review on behalf of some friends. I organised their whole trip and they wanted me to write up a review for Hideaway.

These ladies spent 4 nights at hideway and had a fantastic time. The 50th celebrations were on and Sara went over the top to show them a good time.

Sara and her husband picked up the ladies from the airport late on a saturday night. The flight was delayed but they waited and took care of them when they arrive. Nothing was any trouble. They charged them a reasonable amount for the service. If you don't have a car organised take advantage of this service.

The four ladies loved Sara and adopted her as a one of their own. Sara took them into town. Showed them around. Went swimming with them and cooked them a couple of great meals. Thanks Sara - Kay really enjoyed the beers!!

The bungalows were clean and spacious. Inside was everything you could need for a pleasant stay. The gardens were lovely and well kept. A couple of the ladies are keen gardeners and they loved the flowers and landscape.

The lagoon is not great for snokelling but great for a dip to cool off and paddle around which the ladies did often and Sara jumped in with them a couple of times aswell

The meals were yummy and plentyful. The ladies really enjoyed the breakies. Thick toast, Tea,coffee fruit etc. You will not stave at Hideaway. The new eating area was nice and the view of the lagoon lovely. At great place to seat have a cuppa and enjoy the view.

The ladies wanted me to say- don't pay any more then 5 Tala for a trip into town by taxi. If you pay more you are being ripped off.

They really loved their stay and took Sara into their hearts. They highly recommend staying at Hideway.

Love to you Sara from your 4 new best friends. Thanks to you and your husband for taking such great care of them

This is without doubt the budget place to stay in Apia.
If you want great breakfasts, to be able to swim in the sea outside your accomodation, (i think this is the only place in Apia), clean safe accomodation (i travelled on my own), a dining room at the water's edge and the kindest, most sincere hosts in Samoa then this is the place for you. I was in Samoa for 5 weeks, staying throughout both islands, and innitally only booked for 4 nights. I loved staying here with Sara and Masi so much that i came back 4 times, staying a total of 16 days.
I left Samoa with not only great memories but also new friends in Sara, Masi and girls. Can't wait to go back!

Taumesina Hideaway was a great first stop in Samoa. Sara and her husband, Masi, picked us up from the airport about 1am and were very chatty and helpful. The room we stayed in was clean, had a fan and an ensuite (even a television - not that we used it). The breakfasts were tasty and the scenery was great. The highlight was being able to swim across the inlet - it is one of the only places in/near Apia which is actually on the water. Would definitely recommend to other travellers, be they couples, friends, family or solo travellers. Everyone was really friendly.
