Look beyond the tiredness of this place and experience the tranquility of the location. If you want 5 star don't come here but you will miss out on something unique.
We thought the food was OK, breakfast was great with a good choice. The rooms although basic were clean ( the bed was very hard ) and most of all it was cheap .
The snorkeling here is reputed to be the best on the island and we were not disappointed with lovely coral with an abundance of fish life. The best snorkeling is at low tide as the lagoon gets quite deep at high tide but swimming is also good at low tide.
This place is on the dry side of the island so there is not much chance of rain.
We stayed for 2 nights and for me this was enough as I realize that I do like some of the home comforts.!!.

Didn't spend the night here, just came for lunch. Was quite run down. Bad food. Not sure of the prices but you'd need to be desperate to stay here. If you are on a tight budget, look at the budget fales in the Manase area. That's a great spot! Or the nearby Vaimoana is a great place to stay instead.

though a little run down probably due to the sunshine, this is a classic venue. Our family of 9- adults, nana and teenagers had an absolutely fantastic stay at Vaisala. The rooms comfortable, clean, air conditioned (which helped after your long day in the sun), serviced. Very helpful staff, only to happy to help. The food - lots of choice and great that all of the vege's and fruit cam from the hotels plantations...and the lobster we had was delicious too huge for nana so we shared. This beach is the best in savaii always deep and the snorkelling fantastic...lots to do for teenagers 17/7-20/7/13...we wished that we had come here instead of spending a couple of days in manase beach fales...have car can travel anywhere on the island

Room Tip: best to check out all rooms depending on your price range

The Vaisala Hotel was a great hotel in its day but has sadly slipped into a state of decay, which would be a challenge to reverse. The plumbing is dire...in our school group we even had water from the room above leaking through the ceiling and down the light cable of the room below. The hotel complex is vast and rambling. However, all these deficiencies can be overlooked given the warmth of the welcome and the delightful host/owners, who made us feel so welcome.
Vaisala Bay is an idyllic location in the remotest NW corner of Savaii. I recommend a stay here if you aren't worried about five star accommodation. The staff are just the greatest and the breakfast buffet the best I have ever seen in Samoa!

I can forgive alot but not a lack of cleanliness! After walking across the floor my feet were black. The bathroom looks like it hasn't seen more than a basic clean since the day the hotel was built - the dust and grime behind the doors was simply gross! My bed smelled of stale sweat and the towels were thread bare. It's such a shame because the hotel is in a prime position with a simply stunning beach. The food was good and the staff on the whole friendly. The owners should be ashamed of themselves for neglecting this Hotel, it's time to step up, show it some love and cleaning products!

We (family of 2 adults and 2 children) stayed here for 2 nights. Thoroughly enjoyed our stay! Very good value - not much more expensive, or in some cases cheaper, than accommodation in fales in other parts of Savaii and Upolu. Friendly staff, comfortable rooms (the retro look was fun!) with v. good facilities given the price level - fan + AC, fridge, towels, kettle and tea/coffee, nice tiled bathroom, room tidied every day, lovely terrace with gorgeous sea view. And most importantly - an exquisitely beautiful beach directly in front of the hotel with some of the best snorkelling on Savaii. Deep enough to snorkel even at low tide.

The facilities are old and the entire hotel is due for a major renovation. However, it is located on a beautiful beach, which was my main priority. We stayed in the 'honeymoon' suite...it was a basic room which included a mini fridge and ac. The food was better that I expected (delivered nightly) and the staff were friendly. This is not a posh beach resort by any means but it was clean and a really great value for the location. It's possible to have a good time at Vaisala if you have realistic expectations before you arrive.

Room Tip: Most if the rooms are part of the larger hotel & have an ocean view. For more privacy, the honey...
