“Excellent accommodations”

I was trip coordinator for 15 people from United States that stayed one week at hotel while doing contruction/mission work at a church nearby. Several months prior to our arrival, I was in constant contact with hotel personel to verify reservations and amenities. All my questions were answered promptly and courteously.
Upon arrival, hotel personel responded quickly and were extremely friendy getting everyone settled. Our rooms were appropriately sized, amenities were excellent and food/service was very very good. The location was very conducive to taking short walking/sighseeing trips and was centrally located for all our other travel needs. Our group ate breakfast every morning at the restuarant(as soon as it opened) and after working all day at the church, would return to relax with a cold beer and conversation at the bar. After the very first day, the staff anticipated our schedule and made every attempt to satisfy our groups' needs and even special requests.
I think the best assest of the hotel was the employees. They were courteous, helpful, friendly, seemed to work tirelessly to please us. I am going to highly recommend this hotel for any of our future trips to Ibarra, Ecuador.

Our group of fifteen people stayed at the Montecarlo while we completed mission work for the Episcopal church.
The staff at the hotel all took extra care to meet our needs. The rooms are a little small, but well appointed, clean, and probably the nicest of any hotel I have stayed in during fourteen years of trips to Ecuador. The breakfast buffet was exceptionally large and tasty.

My husband and I were in Ibarra for a construction mission trip with 13 other participants. Our local hosts for the mission trip made our lodging arrangements at the Montecarlo for us. Whenever I needed to contact the hotel prior to our arrival, Francisco Calderon responded very quickly. The day we arrived at the hotel, the management and staff was friendly and very attentive to the needs of our group. Immediately upon our arrival at the Montecarlo,I felt very welcome. We began each day with an incredible breakfast buffet in the hotel restaurant and ended many long days back at the restaurant to unwind with drinks and conversation.

Our room was very clean and the bed was comfortable. I used the hotel's laundry service and was very pleased.

I look forward to another trip to Ibarra and staying at the Montecarlo.

We stayed here for 2 nights. I had picked this hotel over a hosteria because it was located in the center of the city, convenient for walking to restaurants, banks and shops. When we checked in, I had asked if they could arrange transportation for us back to Quito. I was told I had to do that myself, although in Quito, the hotel we stayed in was more than happy to do this for us. When we got to our room we found a toilet that wouldn't flush and extremely low water pressure. The manager explained that the city was working on the water pipes in the road and there was nothing they could do. We asked for a new room, but they said they would get the toilet fixed. They sent someone to work on the toilet. We went out to eat, came back and our room was flooded. They finally agreed to move us to another room. While this one had a working toilet, the water pressure was still low due to the city's work. Unfortunately, there was not a drop of hot water either. If we wanted to shower, it was with ice cold trickling water. Certainly not enough to even rinse shampoo out of your hair. We paid 55 a night and while that seems reasonable coming from the US, it is pretty expensive for Ecuador. After all of our sightseeing, we couldn't wait to get back to Quito to take a shower.

For most of our two-week trip in Ecuador, my aunt and I decided to "rough it" and stay at the most budget hostels available. When we arrived in Ibarra, we decided to "splurge" and pay $45 for a night at the Hotel Montecarlo.

Hotel Montecarlo is a small and classy European style hotel. Our room had all the luxuries and amenities that are sometimes lacking in budget Ecuadorian hostels, such as hand towels, bath mats, bedside lamps, complimentary toiletries, and drinking water.

The young and energetic manager speaks several languages (Spanish, English, and German), and helped us with several travel-related missions: finding a local travel agency, speaking to airlines on the phone, and buying the right amount of postage to mail postcards to different cities in the USA and Europe.

We were impressed with the effort to make the decor elegant and tasteful, and with the extensive spread of the included Continental breakfast. My aunt and I ate well, and commented that we would not need to eat lunch :)

My husband and I recently stayed at the Hotel Montecarlo for four nights. This quaint, boutique hotel had a very friendly staff (but most did not speak English) with clean, but simple rooms, cable TV, and wireless internet. It is situated in a central, walkable area by day, but opt for a taxi at night ($1 US anywhere in Ibarra). The street was a bit noisy and the hot water in the shower difficult to adjust, but these minor inconveniences can easily be ignored when one considers the outstanding service and help provided by the manager, Francisco Calderon. Francisco warmly greeted us when we arrived and answered countless questions for us regarding the property, area, services, etc. He seemed to always be available for hotel guests and is tri-lingual as well.

On the day of our departure we were supposed to be picked up by a driver to be taken back to Quito. This had been arranged weeks in advance with a travel agency. After waiting 1-1/2 hours for the driver to show up, not being able to get through via our cell phone to the agency, and with our limited knowledge of Spanish, we asked Francisco for his help. He spent the next 75 minutes making numerous phone calls for us and arranging safe, reasonably priced, reliable transportation back to Quito (about 2-1/2 hours away). We are grateful to Francisco and applaud the friendly Hotel Montecarlo.

Probably the best option in Ibarra if you do not have a car and do not want to be taking a taxi around. The owner is usually there and the staff speaks English.

Oddly enough, the place was full of foreigners while we where there including the Kazakh junior national cycling team. Not sure why they were training in Ibarra, Ecuador of all places, but you know their manager was going to put them up somewhere decent for a few months.

We bumped into the owner a week later in another part of Ecuador and he remembered us and was as nice then as he was during our one-night stay.
