We had a fantastic time with Emerson and his mother at El Refugio Terra Esperanza. From learning to make belts to eating meals together and talking politics in front of the fire, everything about the place was a wonderful break from the cities we came from. We both just wished we could have spent more time in Ibarra and taken full advantage of their knowledge of the area. If you're in Ecuador – and definitely if you're coming south from Colombia – it's worth coming to Ibarra just to spend time in this hostel.
