The rest of La Estelita was average. The road up to the hotel is unmade and very bumpy. No one to greet us as we arrived early. Not made to feel very welcome when someone did arrive. The whole feeling of the place was that no-one really cared - all rather unprofessional. I had asked a couple of weeks before for twin beds in the Presidential Suite, but didn't receive a response until the morning we were due to arrive. We were told it wasn't possible, and offered another room as "the stairs are too narrow" to put in another bed.. So my friend slept on the couch. The room was cold, as was the whole hotel. Good furniture but cheap bedlinen and curtains. Nice bathroom, but ridiculous jacuzzi which would have taken ages to fill and would not have been hot by the time it was filled. The "floor' of the shower was the uneven bottom of the jacuzzi which was quite dangerous.

Food was very average - served at tables with no attempt at style - awful orange table cloths and napkins, no candles, no flowers, cheap cutlery. Pisco Sours very poor.

The first morning breakfast was a buffet - again average - ordered eggs just sat on the plate with no attempt at garnish or toast or anything. No orange juice. Had to ask for butter - four minuscule pieces. Had to ask for pepper.

The second morning there was no sign of a buffet, and no one said anything. I asked for coffee (I don't speak Spanish but I can manage that) - nothing appeared. When my friend appeared we were told we could order breakfast - same thing, no attempt at setting a table - just food put in front of us - again no butter, no pepper.

There didn't appear to be anyone in charge of the place - just a group of young women. One older man appeared at the reception desk, but only to sit and eat a plate of food.

The whole place was cold - I asked if the fire could be lit - but no, the chimney was blocked!

So over $400 later (for two nights) we left, feeling ripped off, and certainly not very welcome. What is the problem with these hotels (another one the next night) who don't seem to have any idea of service and pleasing guests, or being at all helpful. I would expect more from a bed and breakfast.

Oh, and no wifi in the room. We were promised it would be fixed but it never was.

Not good -and the location and the views did not make up for it!

Dear Maureen,

Thank you for taking the time of leaving a review of your experience staying at La Estelita. We are sorry it wasn´t a good one. Starting from the road to the hotel. Unfortunately the road is bumpy because the local authorities do not maintain them, even though we do our best to keep it in the best shape possible ourselves. About the greeting we you arrived, there must have been a misunderstanding in the communication about your check-in time, since there is always someone to greed our guests. About the twin beds, we did send you a message explaining why it wasn´t possible, and we even offered to change your reservation to another room, since all the furniture of the Suite, was placed there before we built the stairs, because as you say, they are too narrow to carry an extra bed.

About the restaurant, we are sorry you found our food average, and our tables without any style. This is the style of tables and table cloths we chose to keep everything in harmony, and about the food, we always strive to prepare the best quality food possible, and it shows on the different reviews we had about our restaurant. If something was missing from the table like butter and pepper, is because most of our guests don´t like those things in their breakfast, but are always welcome to ask and we will provide without a problem.

Sorry about the wifi, even though is a courtesy from us and its quite an accomplishment to have internet here, since we are up in the mountain. Normally our clients prefer use the wifi at the restaurant, with a cup of coffee and something to eat.

And lastly, please don´t say you feel ripped off, since that is not what we aim at when offering our services to clients. We will improve on the things that buttered you, and will provide an even better experience when staying at La Estelita.

Thank you

A great place to relax with great views of Ibarra and the mountains.

Location: Nested in the mountains. 5Km via Yuracrucito. There are 3 ways to access the place: own car, taxi, or bus. Own car: your smart phone and use any traffic app. [I used Waze and uploaded the route from a place with wifi ] Taxi: from Ibarra aprox USD7 [the hotel can help you to coordinate transportation so better to ask them. I heard about tourists being charged almost double]. Bus: as there are 4 communities up in the mountain, public bus is available [Again: contact the hotel and be sure about the schedule, departure and drop off point].

The road you La Estelita is not paved and narrow. I don't recommend to take it at night: could be very foggy, no public lighting through the route, no traffic or any signals and no barriers to indicate the side end of the road. Try to get the place during good day light. The views from every curve are beautiful and just the "appetizer " of what the guests will see from the hotel.

Rooms: Mine was big with very nice windows to enjoy the fantastic views of the city and the mountains. Perfectly clean. Bed was comfortable. I found the room a little cold but nothing that a good jacket couldn't solve. Every room has a thermal blanket (not those electric ones). Has a normal TV set. View is very romantic.

Bathrooms: small but good enough. The shower was set to a nice temperature so you don't need to fight to adjust cold and hot water. Hotel provides shampoo, conditioner, soap but no shower cap or body lotion.

Restaurant: What a view! Breakfast was perfect: 3 types of natural juice, cereal, granola, cheese, good coffee and eggs. Serves from 8 to 10 am. Dinner from 7pm.

Facilities: it has a very nice open air heated pool facing the Imbabura volcano and the city. [Check with the front desk the open hours]. Near the pool a very nice sauna.

Communications: wifi available.

Hint: don't forget your camera..... Dawn and dusk are absolutely beautiful.

Everything was amazing. Beautiful views, beautiful rooms, amazing food, friendly staff. And what must be the best shower in the entire country. I can't recommend this place enough. The picture is the view from my room at night.

We had a wonderful time with our family, the hotel is beautiful and have friendly staff. We arrived in the afternoon and the check in process was fast. In the night we all went to have dinner on the hotel restaurant and WOW!!!, we got delicious food and awesome drinks. Next morning we went for a family walk and in all the ways the scenery was amazing with lake and mountain views every where. We had a great breakfast and enjoyed the Sauna and the infinity view swimming pool. I recommend this hotel 1000%!!! So remember, if you're planning to go to Imbabura remember that there's and amazing place waiting for you.

Amazing view but make sure to have your map with you so you can find it. Very clean, friendly staff as well. There is a big dog roaming around, he is nice and very polite though. I love the pool!

The food is very good, and breakfast was great.

Only thing is accessibility, you'll definitely need a car to drive up the hill and get there. But well, to me it was the price I paid for a cosy place with great view.

Dear Guest,

Thank you for your kind words while reviewing us. With the technology found these days in our phone, our guests can find us with GoogleMaps or Waze, and the phone will take them directly to us. The road is also in great shape even for a small car. If the guests dont have a car, a taxi can easily take them to us for $8.00 dollars approximately.

Thank you again for your words, and we hope we can see you again soon.
