“Affordable and clean”

I was skeptical staying in a $24/night (for 2!) hotel, even after staying in cheap hotels in China, but this one live up to the reviews. Despite having a room on the corner overlooking 2 streets, things quiet down to a whisper after 10pm, and do not get noisy early. Nice breakfast (extra but reasonable) on the roof patio, and handy internet cafe (be sure to leave a few coins in the donation box for the local school). Nice bed; shower.

We stayed here for 2 nights then went to the jungle and stayed again for 1 night so we had 2 different rooms in 2 different parts of the hostel. Rooms are clean and there is hot water. But at night there was for the 3 nights to much noise from the street! Location is very good. You can have breakfast (not included) at the rooftop terrace. and they did our Landry (twice) for 1,25$ per kilo.

I checked in with two friends to one of the dorm rooms. Two of us went to check out the other building of the hostel and the other went to use the computer. When we returned, less than 30 minutes later, the bag of one of my friends was laying on the floor and his passport was out. Someone had taken all of his money. It appeared that the thief was scared off before getting into the other bags. When we told the people at reception, they remembered a young local coming in to "use the bathroom". However, they told us that it was the guest responsibility to ensure that the door to the street is closed at all times. Fortunately another guest could help with the translations because our Spanish is minimal and the employees speak no English. After an hour or so of repeating the same things, we left and went to another hostel. At this point, an employee chased us down and we were given a free private room on an upper floor. During our stay, I noticed the door to the street was not consistently shut. At one point, a rock had been used to prop it open which I removed. The staff then made sure to tell us not to let any strange people in, which I thought was a bit insulting.
Besides the theft, the hostel is clean, has nice hot showers, and nice common areas. The beds are hard, but it is a hostel. If it were not for the poor security, I would have given this hostel a score of 100%.

I had breakfast here (I didn't stay at the hostel). The view and the homemade bread made the breakfast stand out. The breakfast place is on the top floor and the view was beautiful. The bread was wholewheat, fresh and quite tasty.

Worth mentioning was that it was around 7:45 and I walked around to 3 different breakfast places but all were closed. I stumbled upon this place which was open. Glad I did.

Enjoyed my stay here, be careful about room choice though as the ones directly to the front can be noisy and receive a lot of light from the street as well as from upper windows into internal, lit, corridors. Breakfasts were good and the terrace a fine place to hang out, with good views. Staff friendly and helpful.

Great value for money at $8.5 per night for a bed a dorm. The location is perfect, and the breakfasts delicious. Free wi-fi and use of computers. The rooftop terrace is great for socialising with fellow travellers and the self service bar is dangerous! :-S

We stayed here for 2 nights which was enough! Our room was facing out on the main street and we slept terribly with all the goings on below and the persistent car alarms that kept going off in the night. The curtains were really light and at night the room was illuminated which didn't help the sleep cause.

The bed linen consisting of old blankets and ill-fitted sheets which in addition to the lights didn't facilitate a comfortable sleep and with the dated decor, the whole place felt unclean. No one can fault the staff who were extremely helpful and who did their best to keep the place clean and tidy. The key criticism here is that this place is in much need of an update to emancipate it from the 1980s. There is so much potential here as it is in a prime location in the heart of Banos and overlooking the waterfall!

One excellent and redeeming quality is that the terrace upstairs in the hotel is such a welcoming feature where you can sit outside and enjoy the surrounding views of Banos. I will say that the breakfast here although not included is excellent with lots of choice and is one of the best places for breakfast in South America which made up for the room in some respects. I would recommend the pancakes which were a relief from the dry bread rolls and jam that we got everywhere else.

This is not a place to stay in if you are in search of peace and tranquility but ideal to use as a base for 1-2 nights maximum.
