“Best Coffee in Banos & My Favourite Place”
Reviewed April 24, 2013

I could literally go to this place every day (I nearly do).

Let's start with the atmosphere:
Colourful, with hammock chairs on the patio, and comfy sitting indoors, free wi-fi and just generally relaxed but spacious place, Arté Café wins hands-down for the atmosphere.

Food (Breakfast, Brunch & Dessert)
Between my husband and I we've tried:

Chocolate Crepe
Chocolate and Banana Crepe
Vegetable Crepe
Cheese Crepe
Ham, Cheese, and Egg Crepe

Chocolate and Walnut Cake
Chocolate and Orange Cake
Cheesecake

Cappuccino
Latte
Mocha Frío

Naranjilla Juice
Pineapple Juice
Mora Juice

And here is the thing: every single item was PERFECT.

The café is owned by a couple, Juan (Columbian) and Marie-lys (French). Marie-lys is the chéf, and she lives up to the French reputation for being a fantastic cook. Her food looks great, and tastes even better.

Juan is the Barista, officially certified in France. His coffees are a work of art.

Arté Café should be on the MUST TRY list for any visitors to Banos, and once you go there, you will go back again :-) I might even see you there if I am still in Ecuador!

“Great coffee and crêperie”
Reviewed April 23, 2013

First, the place is really cool, the food delicious for a good price, the music awesome, and the very best of all is the coffee! If you are a real fond of coffee you can taste several types of coffee from Ecuador, which I did and it was a real experience! Definitely A place to visit while in Baños.

“Great little hang-out”
Reviewed April 20, 2013

Wonderful little place attracts you right away with their purple and red facade. Inside, the atmosphere is great, and the crepes and coffee are good. Nice outdoor seating. Big on coffee shoppe atmosphere.

“Finally, a great cup of coffee in Ecuador”
Reviewed April 11, 2013

I've just spent 10 months in Ecuador, 7 months in Vilcabamba, 3 months in Cuenca, and a short time on the coast. As always seems to be the case in coffee-exporting countries, it's difficult to find a good cup of coffee here!

I haven't seen a coffee machine this impressive since leaving the states. I've been to Arte Cafe a few times now, enjoying their excellent variations on hot and cold coffee. The owner is Colombian, and they even serve a hot chocolate - (with cheese?) which is a Colombian specialty. Haven't tried that yet, but will have to before I leave, just for the novelty.

The crepes look delicious, although I've only tried one so far. Ham, cheese, and mushrooms, very good.

Great service, friendly staff, reasonable prices. Nice seating, inside or outside. The hammock chairs are fun, once you get used to them

While I've found Baños to be the most expensive town I have visited in Ecuador, Arte Cafe's prices are similar to anywhere else I have been. But the coffee is better

“Yum yum yum”
Reviewed April 10, 2013

We loved that little place. It had everything we needed to make us happy: delicious coffee (the best we tried in Ecuador), out of this world crepes (and I have tried my share of crepes all over the world), cute interior and exterior, and friendly owners. Honestly, I am a very hard person to please and consider myself jaded (unfortunately) but this place found its way into my heart. My boyfriend, whenever we go out for coffee now, keeps comparing it to our experience in Banos. "Not as good as Juan's coffee" he says wistfully... and we live in San Francisco, where delicious coffee abounds at every corner...
And if I ever go back, I will do some shopping for arts and crafts as well since the cafe displays a really nice selection of local jewelry and souvenirs... :)
